Siebert Outdoors Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 "Currey Holley, TN River Bass Fishing Guide Service-Pickwick Lake Alabama This report is for Friday , April 18th and 19th on Pickwick Lake in Florence,AL. I had the pleasure of fishing with a gentleman from Georgia for the two days. We did a combination of artificial and live bait including swimbaits, topwaters, jigs, and live shiners. We caught several largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass with the biggest being a 5 1/2lb smallmouth. The topwater bite is turning on and the warmer weather ahead should make for some great fishing in the weeks to come. Water Temp 63 Degrees" Quote
bighed Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks Glenn!! It was the discussion at the Classic dinner that has been on Chad's mind ever since. We are both excited to be attending!! He has to be back to work at Cabelas on Sunday so we will miss Saturday dinner unfortunantly. We have a steep learning curve on Pickwick. Hope we can get on a good bite. Got the lodge booked today so there ARE rooms left Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 23, 2013 Super User Posted April 23, 2013 Pickwick, here I come. This may be my last post for awhile. I'm outta here in a half hour, and plan to be on the lake Thursday morning, maybe even Wednesday afternoon, but that's a long shot. I'll be staying at the Hampton Inn @ Pickwick Dam until our reservation begins for a cabin. If they have a computer for guests I'll keep up with the thread, and maybe post a fishing report or two. Looking forward to when the gang arrives. 4 Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Here is a report I found on Fishound.com http://www.fishhound.com/fishing-reports/pickwick-lake-al "Currey Holley, TN River Bass Fishing Guide Service-Pickwick Lake Alabama This report is for Friday , April 18th and 19th on Pickwick Lake in Florence,AL. I talked to a guy at bass pro and they were there sunday the 14th and caught 50ish on trigs and jerkbaits, nothing big but plenty of fish.......I wonder what nothing big is, as I forgot to ask. Most times people that fish pickwick (in my experiance) call 2# small. I on the other hand would take a 50fish day of 2#ers ALL DAY everyday. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted April 23, 2013 Super User Posted April 23, 2013 Ugh! That doesn't appeal to me at all. I would only like 5 bass all day for a 40 lb bag! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I would think that there would be fish at all stages. I prefer big smallies!! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Will anyone be fishing the river for smallies? If so, what do I need for shiners? Quote
bassin is addicting Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 i'll take a 50 fish day in the 2-3lb range any day then again i've never had a day like that.....or 5 8lb'ers....or 5 5lb'ers... lol so....i'll take any of those.... the "home" lake here is commonly known as the dead sea among the big hitters that come here i'm really looking forward to fishing a "real" lake.....and experiencing that... Quote
zip pow Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I'm ready as I'll be Can't wait to hook up with a good smallie hope to get my boy hooked up a time or two He'll probly fish live bait or a swim bait the whole time maybe the river will be flowing and he'll out fish me .That's always what I hope for .I'd rather bait his hook than fish if he's catching them and just watch his face light up when he sets the hook . 2 Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 LOL....you can tell we are fisherman.....I said in my experience people who fish Pickwick call 2# small, then someone said yeah 2.5# fish are awesome, then the next guy said 2-3# fish are fun!!! LOL it keeps growing! Which is fine, cause maybe by the time we get there is will be sacks of 5#ers!! HA HA HA I have just noticed from other boards and various internet postings that 5#+/- are called quality fish at pickwick and below that are called "small" or "nothing big", JMO But really they might have caught 1# dinks all day, I dont know. I DO KNOW this trip is going to be a hellva time! Quote

bassin is addicting Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 just purchased my Alabama license!! i don't think i've ever been that excited to buy a fishing license... lol!! question.... is there any night fishing done? if anyone is looking to....i'd be up for it... Quote
ProCrafter Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 At the 2009 Roadtrip I had only caught one fish in Washington State prior to the roadtrip for 2009 and all fish combined caught about 100 for Kentucky Lake with boat trips and shore fishing so this will be a real boost for my morale this Spring after having zero's for my first tournament last weekend where I have'nt zero'd in 10 years!!! 1 Quote

Well, if you scout out your target and use your GPS tracking to get there and back, you are probably okay. However, Pickwick can be a dangerous river/lake, especially at night. If you are going out at night, stay close and know EXACTLY where you are. Quote

I might be up for it if the fishing/weather is good. I wont stay out late but I might fish around the marina if the weather is good. If I do night fish it will be a last minute call. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 ok... i'm a non-boater...so if anyone ends up wanting to....i'm in...if a partner is needed... i understand the "last minute" call thing.... Quote
zip pow Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I maybe up to a little night fishing I've got a small 17-6 glass boat and my boy will be with me but we can probly still all fish safely of coarse the weather will have to be favorable for it. I'm not above bank fishing with live bait and lighted bobbers at night either if the boats not big enuff Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I with ya Procraft.......I cant even catch golf course fish this spring, and my golf course fish are all but pet fish. I fished with 00mod a few weekends ago and caught 4, knowing the spring I have had thus far I felt like Bill Dance after those fish... I got black bass fever and the only cure is ROADTRIP. lol Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 24, 2013 Super User Posted April 24, 2013 A week from today I'll be on the road!!!! I am so ready. This is the first year I've bought out of state fishing licenses before getting an Illinois license. I still don't have an Illinois license. I haven't been fishing here at all. I do have a Missouri and an Alabama license. Strange year for me so far. My first bass of the year will come on the RoadTrip. I'm a bit more ready. Have the Alabama license, selected the rods and reels for this trip, serviced and put fresh line on the reels, cleaned up and organized my tackle for the trip, purchased all the non-perishable supplies for the Soiree and started packing. 1 Quote
