I'm really disappointed but due to personal reasons I have to cancel my attendance at the roadtrip. I hate it for me but hope everyone has a great time and whacks em!! I'll look forward to the reports.

Well crud Carl!!  I was really looking forward to seeing you there!  We'll miss you.  I guess I'll have to catch a fish (or two or three) in your honor!

On another note, Procrafter and I live about 5 miles apart from each other.  And you're right, the flight back home is killer!

Brandon, it's not my gear that's the problem. I have a rod and reel that will handle an A-rig up to about three ounces with no problem. The problem is me. I'm a light line, finesse type fisherman by choice. Fighting a big fish on light line turns my crank. Pointing the rod tip straight up, cranking as fast as I can, and making the bass sky across the water is NOT my idea of fun. Might as well fish with a throw net. Out of my 20+ combos, two have 14lb test line. The remainder have lighter line, down to 8 on some baitcasters, down to 4 on a spinning rig.

There will be no turning of cranks of any kind on this roadtrip. :tsk-tsk:

well....i think i need to backtrack on my earlier comment on the flash mob jr.  i made a general comment based on the heavy/large a-rig.  which i have no interest in throwing.  i went to my local walmart and checked out the flash mob jr.  as RW and others have commented...it is a light weight rig that looks like it can be thrown on regular gear without the "workout".  so.....of course i picked one up....lol!!

and..it conforms to my regulations here in IN..with 3 hooks.  i'll just put a blade on one for the Roadtrip.

anyway...i just thought i'd retract my original reaction.....and thank RW for the update and fishing report from Pickwick.

cannot wait to get down there and have a great time catching fish and meeting everyone....

Much to my chagrin...........I bought one too. I do not wish to use it and have no interest in this lure........but I do not want to miss out if that ends up being the one lure I need at pickwick. So I will have one in my arsenal!

I'll be fishing late Thursday morning, and looking forward to being with all of you on Wednesday. I should have some info by the time you all arrive, even if that info is what not to do.

ok, ok , I picked up 2 jr flash mobs this morning.

dobnys DX784 lews TP 7.1 20# tatsu

1/8 j williams jig heads

 2 rage grubs

2 2.5 inch money minnows

1 3.5 inch money minnows (wanted to experiment on baits)

I threw it for about a hour and half here at the golf course and it wasnt to bad. I got some spindarells too but I would need a swimbait rod for those. The JRmob did ok, I wouldnt want to throw it for 8 hours, well unless I was catching fish I wouldnt.

It would seem if a guy had a rod made for this type rig it really wouldnt be bad at all.

Jerkbaits are not in my arsenal.  Anyone have some recommendations on depth and color?  I'm putting a TW order together.

Fishing Daddy I think I got 1 jerkbait and its still in the package................with the Arig, jerkbait, and moving baits sounding good, I am hoping for a decent swim jig bite.

I remember taking that pic. I also remember I broke off the only decent fish I hooked that day. As far as jerkbaits go, I catch a lot more bass on X-Raps than on pointers.

I am gonna camp somewhere in the area, preferably the state park. But, if someone wants to fish the upper end of Pickwick, let me know and I will stay in Florence Wednsday night and they can meet me at McFarland park the next morning.

And, in the just when you think you have everything under control department.

The trailer had the bearings repacked and one seal replaced on Friday.  Saturday morning the truck went in for oil change, tire rotation and once over before heading for Pickwick.

Yesterday, I was running some errands and when I pulled into the driveway and stopped, it sounded like something had toppled off the back seat or something had tipped over in the bed of the truck.  Nope, everything was where it had been.

Had to make a quick run this morning to get a piece of weather stripping at a nearby hardware store.  As I was driving down the road, I heard a clunk from beneath the truck.  Sounded like I had run over a stick that bounced up against the bottom of the truck.  A few hundred yards down the road, I heard it again, but not as loud.

Sounded like a bushing had fallen out of the anti sway bar (stabilizer), or a shock.  Went over a couple of pot holes, and nothing.  The steering was fine and other than the occasional clunk all seemed normal.

Ran it to the dealer that serviced the truck on Saturday and they took it right in.  Road tested it, heard the clunk, and found the source.  One of the links on the stabilizer had broken.  Must have been what I heard in my driveway.

The truck could have been driven without any problem, but not knowing what it was would have made for a very uneasy 1200 mile drive to Pickwick.  Better that it happened when it did.

I think that can also be filed under "if it's not one thing, it's another" dept.  It's good you noticed it and didn't ignore it.  Safe trip my friend.

Wow!  You attend the 2nd Annual Road Trip, and then no more is heard from you until ... you showed up at this year's Classic.  It was great seeing you again, and now it's even better with you joining us at Pickwick.

Well...actually...they were both at the Classic a few years back when we all ate at Joes Crab Shack.  Glad to have you back!
