Super User roadwarrior Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 Dateline: Saturday February 23, 2013 I am trying to get confirmation and pics, but this is the story I heard this morning: Saturday in a small tournament the winning bag came in at 37+ lbs, including an11.8. Every fish was caught in 20'-25' water on The Rig, white grubs on the outside arms, chartreuse in the middle. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 26, 2013 Super User Posted February 26, 2013 Alright, I talked to a friend that fished the tournament. He told me a picture was posted on Facebook, Hammer Rods. Not only is the fish legit, the dude caught it the day before pre-fishing! Same fish, same bait, same location two days in a row. My friend also said the total winning weight was 29 lbs, the 39 I reported was a week earlier. For those of you sitting on the fence, especially you local guys, get your plans made. Double digits are being caught every week, The fishing will be even better the first week May. Pickwick is on fire! 1 Quote
bassin is addicting Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 these "updates" are killin' me.... it just reaffirms my commitment to go... they are a love-hate thing love to see and hear about how good the fishing is there....and hate the wait til May i can't wait.... Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 27, 2013 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 27, 2013 Local angler boats a 11.14 and then a 11.83 the next day on Pickwick William Davis of the Shoals Area was doing what a lot of tournament bass anglers do before a tournament- checking out places to fish and looking for honey holes on Pickwick Lake withan Alabama Rig®. Davis was fishing several miles downriver from Florence, AL, McFarland Park. He was working a ledge in the Waterloo, AL area fishing eight feet of water when Davis’ Hammer rod bowed under a tremendous strike on his Alabama Rig.Read the whole story on Southern Fishing News Home Page and click on the News-Stories menu( http://southernfishingnews.com/home.html). Siebert Outdoors Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 That is an awesome fish. I hope to catch one big enough to break 10lbs on our trip. I guess I better bring an AL Rig. RW and OOMOD better have the fished lined up for Julie. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 Well, at least in theory, the fishing should be MUCH BETTER in May than late February. However, lots of DDs have been caught this winter and the "numbers" are showing up, too. Sunday I caught 32 on Smithwick Rogues and Red Eye Shad. We fished from 8:00 to 4:00, but wasted a couple of hours hunting stripes. Saturday my partners caught 19 between them, all on The Rig. For some reason we couldn''t find them Sunday. BTW, although their fish were only 15-25 lbs, they have been catching plenty of 30 lbs+. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 I can not wait. The honey moon and wedding stuff is all done and now time to change focus to fishing!! Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 I'm with you, Rhino! 34yrs for me this year. I'm coming up on 44. What's a honeymoon? Quote
scrutch Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Looks like your lil 'ol 7 1/2 pounder at Guntersville won't be enough this year RW! Now where's that towel?! If I can't make it this year, I'm quitting my job and looking for lake property on Pickwick! My wife has always wanted to move south! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 A double digit is certainly a possibility, I just hope it's bronze! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 I'm coming up on 44. What's a honeymoon? What's a honeymoon? It's the period of time following a wedding, 'til the excitement wears off. I know what a honeymoon is, when it starts, but I don't know when it ends. Quote

Jeff Well, here's a clue: You have to actually fish The Rig to catch any fish on it! I don't fish The Rig shallow, so I caught -0- on it Sunday. I only used it targeting stripes and we couldn't find them. My point is, like any other technique, there is a time and place, not all the time or anywhere. Quote
Big Jon Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I'm not saying that I would be able to make it, but I still have a question. Is there any point trying to come if you don't have a boat? 1 Quote
bighed Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Try to figure out how I can make this happen for my son and I. Lots of excuses but I know those are not accepted here! Quote

Is there any point trying to come if you don't have a boat? About half of the members that come do not have boats. Everyone will end up on a boat and fish. Come on! Jeff Quote

Super User slonezp Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Are the wives going and if so, will there be something other than fishing for them to do? Sorry if this has been covered, I'm not going thru 22 pages to find the answer Got some bad news from the doc today. Looks like I may not be going back to work for awhile, possibly a long while. So there may be a good chance I'll be open to partake in the festivities. Quote

Same with Keri, Glenn's much better half. FD's wife is coming. I know of at least 3 other women, but I am pretty sure they all fish. I remember some others saying their wies will be there..... I don't kow about other activities though. Jeff Jeff Quote
