Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 17, 2012 Super User Posted May 17, 2012 YES!!!!! If I still have a pulse, I'm in. I won't make the mistake of stopping in Bristol, TN like I did two years ago. What I expected to be a four or five hour trip to Pickwick turned out to be a nine hour drive. I stopped around four in the afternoon, got my TN license at a Walmart, had a nice dinner, and kicked back so I could get an early, 1:00 a.m. start to Pickwick. I put the destination in the nav system and found out I still had six hundred miles to drive. Got there at ten in the morning. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted May 17, 2012 Super User Posted May 17, 2012 Yup, I smell a real adventure coming up. I can't wait to see the particulars. Pickwick State Park perhaps? Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 18, 2012 Super User Posted May 18, 2012 I should have either a new job or increased hours by then. I intend to make this one Damnit!! Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 18, 2012 Super User Posted May 18, 2012 With this trip starting on Wednesday, I'll probably be able to do the whole trip for once. Looks like the Saturday Night Wine & Cheese Soiree will need a new name. You can't have a soiree in the middle of the week, can you? How about the Mid-week Mingle & Munch? 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 18, 2012 Super User Posted May 18, 2012 Mid-week mingle and munch it is! Don;t leave me out on this one Gary! Jeff Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 18, 2012 Super User Posted May 18, 2012 Mid-week mingle and munch it is! Don;t leave me out on this one Gary! Jeff No one gets left out. I'll be getting a bigger cabin than the one we had last time at Pickwick. Sort of ran out of room. Won't happen next time. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I'm going to miss the soiree.....that was about as high class a name for a shindig I've ever been to. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 With this trip starting on Wednesday, I'll probably be able to do the whole trip for once. Could be dangerous......Long Mike will have more time to try to drown you!! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 18, 2012 Super User Posted May 18, 2012 What's the accommodations like on this pond, I see the Hampton Inn, and something at a State park near the dam but not much else. Didn't know there was particular days for Soirée's, I'll partake any day There are cabins, and camping areas. There is also a lodge(motel) and two wide ramps on the site. If I recall the cabins had two bedrooms and two beds in each room. There is a sitting area with a television, and a dining area with a fridge and cooking stove. One thing I liked. The lodge has a buffet for dinner. I think it starts serving at 4:00 pm. You can tie up at the dock, have dinner and be able to keep an eye on your vessel. Back on the water after dinner if so inclined. There is also a golf course at the park. Like Guntersville and KY Lake there are plenty of ramps to fish the different areas. The ramps at the park will allow you to fish the dam area, and many other productive fishing areas. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 19, 2012 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 19, 2012 You guys are too funny! Yes, it will be at the state park again. More details to follow, so don't make your reservations just yet. Just know we've already reserved rooms and cabins, so not to worry. You're safe. BTW, although Keri and I haven't fished Pickwick before, we do a considerable amount of smallmouth fishing in our area, so we'll be happy to help out anyone who's new to smallie fishing! Quote
Scorcher214 Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Man, im ready for this roadtrip now! And although I live on St Clair, smallie fishing was something I never really did. And now that I've lost access to a boat. looks like my chance at getting on some good smallies will wait till pickwick. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted May 19, 2012 Super User Posted May 19, 2012 Traveler, Pickwick Landing State Park has ten cabins (we have blocked all of them,) each with two bedrooms, having two double beds apiece. The cabins weren't designed for boat hook-ups or boat parking, but they worked out fine for us a couple of years ago. Because we had multiple adjoining cabins the members simply worked with each other to get our boats parked as close to a cabin as possible. Parking and hook-ups never became an issue. Just make sure you bring plenty of extension cord. A 100' reel will suffice. On the other hand, the lodge has plenty of hook-ups, just as the Hampton did at G'ville. Quote
jeremyt Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I'm looking forward to this trip. I have never caught a smallie and hopefully I can on this trip. If anyone between the coast of nc and pickwick wants to go I can give you a ride. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 300 miles, Im going to be there this time! NGaHB Quote
