pntballty Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Not sure if this is in the right section or not, please move if needed. Thought you guys might want to know my local walmart had Owner, Mustad, and Gamakustu hooks in there bargain bin, everything from skip gap to wide gap worm hooks for $1.50 per pack. Tyler 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 17, 2012 Super User Posted May 17, 2012 Yeah about a month ago, 2.00 for all the owner hooks. Crazy....does it mean they are stopping carrying them? Eagle claw only??? Quote

flyeaglesfly5186 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 The four Wal-Marts in my area are crazy discounting everything in their fishing sections. I'm loving going in with $20 and walking out with potentially $60 worth of tackle. Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 My Wal Mart is selling Conqueror baits and tackle for 2 dollars a pack. I stocked up on Plastic worms and lizards, cranks, hooks, jigs, all for 2 bucks a piece. The big fish in my quarry lake LOVE the ribbontail worms. Cheap stuff but it works for me. Quote

JaxBasser Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 My Wal-Mart only sells those crappy Eagle Claw hooks. Quote
logan9209 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 My Wal-Mart stopped carrying the Conqueror lures. I didn't get anything for me (except a spinnerbait which I've only caught one bass on a spinnerbait), but I did get a pack of worms (blue flake 4"). I am now wishing I had gotten some more of those because the other day he got 3 strikes, 2 of them he hooked but got off cuz he's just started fishing. Yesterday he finally landed one. Those worms will float dead on the water if weightless and with a weight the tails stick straight up. 1 worm lasted through 4 different bass all together. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 31, 2012 Super User Posted May 31, 2012 My Wal-Mart only sells those crappy Eagle Claw hooks. I don't think Eagle Claw hooks are crappy, in fact I won 2 tournaments using a 3/0 lite wire EWG laser sharp worm hook. Eagle Claw gets a bad rap because everyone associates them with those bronze hooks that rusted really quick. Right now that make some great jig hooks and I had a gentleman thank me for a jig I gave him for free. This guy wanted nothing but Gamakatsu hooks used for his jigs and that is what I made for him but I got a new Eagle Claw hook that came in, it was the EL111BP which is a 60 degree EWG flipping jig hook with a black platinum finish. Anyway I made his jigs and gave him an extra for free and told him to try it out, it was made with a new Gamakatsu hook which was really the Eagle Claw, well 2 weeks goes by and I got an email with several pics of big fish he caught and he told me that new jig with the new style gammy hook was the best jig he ever used, he didn't lose a single fish and it didn't bend and after a bunch of fish it still had the same sharp point. He didn't believe me when I told him he was using a junk Eagle Claw jig hook, after all, that is wht he called them but I showed him the box and the hooks and 2 years later he gets his jigs made with the same Eagle Claw hook. The point I'm making is not all of Eagle Claws hooks are crappy, the laser sharp hooks are really good and I would put them up against any Mustad worm hook. The other thing is I have had people that didn't like the junk eagle claw hooks and when I asked what they didn't like they told me they only knew they were cheap and junk because of what they heard having never actually used one. 1 Quote
Dr. Watson Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 My Wal-Mart only sells those crappy Eagle Claw hooks. Just remember these are the same people that make Trokars, which are some of the best hooks I've used along with my Owners Quote
JaxBasser Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I've just had bad experiences with the Eagle Claw EWG hooks, the main problems being rolled points and bent hooks. I used to use them a lot when I was fishing on a tighter budget and sure they caught fish but I had many more problems with them compared to other hooks. I have some Trokars and I love them but I just don't like the regular Eagle Claw stuff. Speaking of Owner hooks I was in a wal-mart on a side of town I don't normally go to and they have Owner worm hooks for $2.00 a pack. I cleaned them out. Quote
Dave P Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Never, ever had any issues with Laser Sharps. I've still got some of the originals that I bought in the hook box. Quote
Michael DiNardo Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I've never had any issues with Eagle Claw hooks??? Mike Quote
Kyle Mahaffey Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Last week, WalMart had strike king buzzbaits and strike kings plastic worms on sale for 2 bucks. Would have cleaned them out but the wife said I had an allowence of 20 bucks. Quote
logan9209 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Haha. I'm lucky if I get an allowance of $5-10. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 3, 2012 Super User Posted June 3, 2012 I use Eagle Claws for several reasons, Walmart is open at 4 am, they are inexpensive and most important they work just fine. I use their worm and ewg hooks for bass fishing and for my heavier fish their 4/0 circles have performed flawless on cobia and amberjack offshore and I use the same ones inshore bait fishing for snook and tarpon. The hooks stay sharp and they are strong, do I need something else? Other brands perform just as as good too, don't see the reason to spend more for the same success. There is a Magworm EWG L098RG which is heavier than their Wide gap worm L7092RG, both have worked just fine for me. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 My walmart had the skip gap gammys for a buck fifty, bought em all. Grabbed some Spiderwire mono on the cheap too. A couple of months ago I found some Yum Money Minnows and Money Craws in the $2 Yum box, grabbed all of those too. Quote
JKarbo214 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Just got back from my local Wal-Mart and they had nothing worthwhile on sale. Certainly no gammy hooks on sale. Oh well, maybe next time... Quote
Scorcher214 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Really? Never is there a sale when I have excess cash. Only when I'm strapped lol. Quote
