I am currently using the eagle claw lazer sharp wide gap worm hook in 3/0 size.  I have heard mixed reviews on these and was thinking about switching to something else.  I really like the size of this hook, it is a good match for most of the plastics I use.  However, I don't think they are all that sharp and they certainly get dull after some use.  What should I try?

I really love academy's house brand hooks. They say made in Japan on the package, so I think they are rebranded Gamagatsu. They sell for $2.50 for a 10pack or $5 for 25. They are a great hook at a great price!

Academy does make a great "G Lock" style hook. Also I use just a Gamakatsu 3/0 - 6/0 ewg.

Gammys..

I like the Eagle Claw Lazer sharps but I had some trouble with them rusting this year.   If I'm out fun fishing I will use the Eagle Claws but if i am in a tourney, all i will use are Gamakatsu's...

I went through all of my hooks a week or 2 ago and had to throw out pretty much all of my LazerSharps....  I didn't have to get rid of one Gammy due to rust...

Gammy EWG's

I think I'm going to try some Owner next year just to try em out but the EWGs are great

i really like the gammy skip gap hooks.

they hold onto even the softest plastics with ease.

i esp. like them for "moving" plastics like flukes and paddletails and toads.

I use South Bend, they are $1.50 for 10.  I loose alot of rigs, the river bootom is all rocks.

I agree with the Academy hook suggestion. With that said, I'm old school, I still use offset worm hooks. Best deal is BassPro, the Eagle Claw L095JL Southern sproat worm hook, Z-bend, wide gap, Light wire, like 12c each. Yes, I do sharpen them before I use them. Like another said, too many rocks where I fish, I lose them faster than they can rust. I also feel with the point not inline with the eye, I think I catch more fish and that counts a lot in the game.

We fish for smaller bass here. So the biggest I fish is a 2/0.

That being said I prefer a straight shank Gammy for Texas rigging a worm. Size 1 for 4".....size 1/0 for 6".

For 4" Senkos I go with a Gammy EWG in the 1/0.  The senko are fatter and I feel i get a better hook up rate with the EWG.

Gammy 3/0 - 6/0 G-Lock and EWG

These work for all the plastics I use.

I really like the Owners as well.

I always replace my crank bait hooks with Mustad triple grips

Gammy EWG. 3/0 for 5" Senkos, 4/0 and 5/0 for larger plastics.

OWNER twistlock w/CPS , i change out the smaller centering spring lock with the large one . the hook is a 3x wire hook but is not too thick of gauge . i use these for worms and frogs . for big worms i use the OWNER oversize worm hook in 7/0 ....

the twist lock is pictured below ....

+1 I've used Gammy EWG for years without complaint. I am going to try Owner because of the many good reviews on this board.

Owner followed by Gamakatsu and Mustad.  Usually use Owner for heavier cover fishing with frogs and creatures because they take more bumps and dings from objects without loosing their sharpness. In open water fishing it will be Gamakatsu or Mustad.

Owner's in light cover and RI BMF'ers when using braid for me.

I can't believe all you guys use wide-gaps...

Owner followed by Gammy for most situations and Gammy Superline for froggin' and ragin' in the slop.

I have a bunch of Gammy, Owner, and Mustad EWG hooks, but I use more BPS "Wide Superlock" and "Offset O'Shaughnessy" hooks than anything else. They come in packs of 20-25 for about $5, which is good for me since I don't reuse them.

That said, I still buy the other brands when I find them on sale/clearance. I rarely use them, but I buy them anyway.

For big worms I fish the 5/0 Gamakatsu

Offset Round Bend Worm-Hooks. Otherwise,

EWG almost exclusively.
