Simp Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 So I'm heading to KY lake for a few days and I'm planing way points out ect and it occurs to me the lake is down by three ft from summer pool. I was going to just off set the map with this info but then it occurs to me KY lake has different lake levels they keep it at different times of the year. So what lake level is Navioncs basing there depth readings on? Does anybody know where to look to get this info? Quote
Al Wolbach Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I read somewhere that they are based on full pool......................................Al Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 17, 2012 Super User Posted May 17, 2012 A suggestion, when at unfamiliar waters, position your boat on a contour line shown on the map and see if the depth shown matches. If you have a Humminbird unit, and the depth is less than the contour line, use the Shaded Depth setting to create a new colored shoreline so you will know ahead of time if you are approaching shallow areas. Lowrance may have that feature also with Navionics software. Quote
bowfish12 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Summer pool Simp. Be careful outside of the marked channels. Best thing to do is idle. I know it sucks but it beats having your boat beached or ripping a lower unit off. I've witnessed quite a few boats hit ground and I've personally made a few mistakes (minor) with the water low.
