Hyrule Bass Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 some nice fish there, that striper is huge too. someone caught a 40+ lber there not long ago. I cannot wait to get down there memorial day weekend and get some fishing in... Quote
dustin11 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I am curious like OneFisher85. What were you using? and what part of of the lake are you on? I fish the roanoke river and usually stay between the state park and indian point. i usually use a tube during the day and a thunderstick at night. Quote
vapredhunter Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 I've been fishing a lot of different stuff latey caught fish on all of it. Some are coming off main lake point on crankbaits and topwater. Some pitching docks with senkos, jigs and worms. Somedays I dont even catch a fish on the same thing 2 Sundays ago I fished an hour and a half without a bite then changed the way I was fishing the same bait and caught 5 in an hour and a half. The night fish are coming on Thunderstick that big striper came on thunderstick. Doesn't really seem to matter where you fish on the lake just concentrate on shallow water structure and suspended fish in or around cover. That will change in a couple of week but it seems to be working now. I fish all over the lake it just depends on my mood that day. I don't fish Tournaments very often so I mostly try to stay away from crowds. Funny though I hardly ever fish between Indian point and State Park I dont ever fish tubes either probley should I use to catch lots of fish on them years ago. After all that rain this week I'll have to go find them again myself it also helps to during the week if you can, so your not always fishing used water. 3 big tournaments this weekend probley 500 boats not including the local tournament and pleasure fishing. There wont be any stone left unturned this weekend. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 anyone got any info on what SML is like this week so far? i cant wait to get down there friday, i havent fished since March... Quote
vapredhunter Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 I haven't been out in a while but a buddy went out today said he caught 8 mostly on topwater. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 We rented houseboat last weekend and i seen alot of big bass occasionally cruising the shallows. I did some shallow diving with my gopro cam and got some cool footage of nice bass and a nice 4lb? smallmouth that was hanging to underwater structure, she was not shy at all came right up to me! It was a great time even though i didn't get to fish much Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 ive yet to catch a smallmouth from SML. it will happen one day though. last two times i went, there were a pair of crawdads in the minnow trap. im hoping for a couple more in there this time, havent caught anything on them yet, but someone told me a new way to hook them without killing them that i hadnt tried. got pinched by one last time, was wearing cheap berkley fishing gloves and still felt it good, didnt know those suckers could pinch that hard though. also plan to do some catfishing there, this time of year i usually catch a ton of 18 inch 3 pound channel cats and some decent sized bullheads, and if im lucky a flatty... Hyrule Bass Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 what part of the lake do you do your catfishing? and what do you look for? my catfishing usually comes from sitting on my uncles dock all night chunking out chicken livers, nightcrawlers, shrimps, and minnows. The part of the lake is a cove in the back of the craddock creek area of the lake. i catch channels, bullheads and occasional small flatheads. if you want big flatheads i hear your best bet is up either of the river arms in shallow water with live bluegills. sorry i cant help more, ive never actually cat fished from a boat. usually the only time my uncle goes fishing in his boat is when he is after stripers and occasionally he will sit back and relax while i fish for bass Quote
