ksfisher Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 My orra s30 makes a funny noise when reeling in. I just recently purchased it and on the retrieve, regardless of lure weight, it makes a scraping/rubbing sound. any help? Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Could have a gritty substance in the handle shaft. Quote
jerzeeD Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Bring it back to the store if it is less than a month old. Let them deal with it. Quote
cueball Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Try oiling the bearing in the line roller. It is part 25 in the schematic. Quote

That could be the rotor and spool rubbing, or remove the spool if the sound continues it is the rotor rubbing the frame.Either way take/send it back for a return. Good Luck & Tight Lines! Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I have two Orra S's... Very disappointed in them both. Comlpetely worthless, especially with braid. I guess they were some of the first ones released. The AR bearing won't hold anything. Every time I reel it up, it goes back half a turn. I say braid is worse cuz of the no stretch, I guess it just exaggerates the problem. Quote

I heard the Orra Inshore was a good reel but I've also heard a lot of negatives about this series. I wonder why they even made it to begin with. Take that Orra back and order you a REVO S from Tackle Warehouse for $99. I believe they are still on sale. Great reel. Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Yea, I have a couple of them too, and they are a good reel. I've had the Orra too long to take back and was always to lazy to return them. So they just sit in a corner now. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Anything new should be right without messing with it so a return is in order. As for older ones, I know they can be had for well less than retail but, it's a shame to have $70 reels you can't use. If you want to send them in over the summer I'll see what I can do with them. Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 18, 2012 Super User Posted May 18, 2012 I have a similar problem with my Abu Soron 60, I get a slight noise on retrieve under load of a lure. Dead quite with spool on and just turning the crank. I sent the real into Pure Fishing, maybe a miscommunication as all they did was send the real back and gave me a new spool, at first I thought it was a line roller bearing too. The situation with the new spool is not near as bad as it is with the original spool which has braid on it. This is a light reel, has a drag of 30#, smoother than silk and handles amberjack......I no longer even notice the noise. Why the Soron was discontinued and replaced by the Orra is a mystery to me, I own a 20, 2 40's and 60, they have caught some big fish. Quote

DVT- send me a PM if ya dont mind. I'm decently savvy on cleaning and maintenance, and i've tried running the AR bearings with no lube, light lube, heavy, with grease, I'm not exactly sure what else there is left for me to do. But i'm guessing this would have to a new AR bearing. I'm not sure what else it would be? Quote
