tpsneaks18 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Has anyone tried these? If so what's their opinion? Especially someone who also has some higher-end rods...How do u think they compare? Because...I took a 1-year hiatus from tourney fishing and was out on the lake less...didnt revamp or get any new rods and my rods were already a year or so old...So I had mostly 2009 Kistler Helium LTA's (250-280$), a Kistler LTX (350$), and a couple Kistler Argon's (200$) and a discontinued Falcon Rod that was very expensive 300$ or more i believe...great rod. But my point is...I always SCOFFED @ the discount rods...but @ the time the MOJO by St. Croix was the one who set the bar for discount rods with good components and quality actions etc....To me the MOJO's were garbage...Putting a Mojo in ur hand after a Helium LTA is not really fair tho. Then Falcon Bucoo's came out, and the barrage of new discount priced rods hit the market in the last couple years...Vendetta, Veritas, e21 wild black carrot stix (WOW those r light!), Bucoo's, Mojos, Kistler Carbon Steel, Shimano Clarus revamps...just about every brand put out a $100 or less price range competitor...or some a bit over $100. Recently I had heard so many good things about the Veritas and tried my brother-in-law's briefly and was impressed...I've now bought 2 and about to get my 3rd...they honestly fish better or equal to my Helium LTA's...the sensitivity and balance is incredible for a 100$ rod I cannot believe it... Is this just rod technology advancement in general or is a cuz ABU is part of such a huge company that can afford to mass produce cheaper? I believe the rod is the most important part of the whole bass arsenal...it's ur extended arm, ur feeling, it's everything...Have newer, higher end rods advanced THIS much as well? I'd just like to hear some opinions. Quote
Zoff Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I have at lease one of all of the V series. The Veritas is, by far, my favorite. I have had Loomis, and several other high end rods in the past before trying the Abu line. I will stick with the Veritas and up in the Abu line from now on. Quote
McBee Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I have two Veritas, one 6.6 med action and one 7' med heavy action. I dont have a lot of experience with Higher end rods but I will say that I kinda abuse them a lil more than I like, from transporting them to local ponds to transporting to bigger lakes in a aluminum boat with no cover or protection, I am impressed at the level of durability. And compared to other poles the I pick up at the random outdoor stores I am impressed with how lite they are compared to others. I cant compare how sensitve they are to others except Carrot Stix, but I am also impressed with that as well. If you are wanting to spend $100 bucks on a pole, you will not be disappointed if you purchase the Veritas. Quote
skyerp Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Abu Garcia has a 3 year warrenty on all "V" series rods, they are very light and sensitive, i will never regret trying Abu and there customer service is unbeatable. Quote
NateFollmer Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I actually won a Veritas around Christmas and just started using it this year (funny story, it took them like 4 months to ship it due to a shipping error... so they sent me a Revo SX for free too... Because I was so upset I didn't get my FREE rod! That's awesome customer service right there!), Anyway, I was always a 'cheap' set up user, never liked to pay more than $70 for combos. So far, I really like the rod and reel, very light (lighter than my Quantums, and it's a foot longer), the rod can take a beating... or bending I should say. I put it in the bottom of my kayak and it has to be bent pretty hard to get in there. I cringe every time, but it holds up fine. Quote
Diggy Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I love these rods..They fish well and look awesome. I stare at mine with the lews reel because it's sexy...my lady is jealous Quote
JaxBasser Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I love mine. I can be tough on my equipment but it has held up well. Very light and sensitive. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 22, 2012 Super User Posted May 22, 2012 My friend swears by his. Quote
mg4u2nv Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Awesome rod! I bought a 7'MH microguide about 6 months ago for my frog setup. Have a BPS PQ paired with it so the white/silver looks great! Rod has taken a beating over the last few months pullin fish out of the slop and no signs of slowing down! Also recently purchased a vendetta which i havent thrown enough yet to really tell. Super User BASSclary Posted May 22, 2012 Super User Posted May 22, 2012 Let me start off by saying the Veritas is a good rod, especially for the price. But seriously, all their stuff gets over-hyped. Really overhyped. Almost everybodies first reaction is how light and sensitive it is. That's cool, its light and sensitive. But so are the other half of budget rods. And people who compare them to rods costing twice as much, well if you've felt any of those you would immediately tell the difference. Point being, way to many people praise it because its the best rod they've ever felt, and its usually their first over 90 $ rod. Point being: good rod, extremely overhyped and overrated. Good marketing Abu 1 Quote
SausageFingers Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I have three - 6'-6" MH, 7'-0" M, and 7'-0" M (Winch). Easily my favorite rods. Quote
buzzfrog Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I love these rods..They fish well and look awesome. I stare at mine with the lews reel because it's sexy...my lady is jealous thats how my gf feels when i stair t my custom catfish rods with my color ambassadours, lol and yea i love mine for the price, better than my mojo, i also love the villian and verdict, even for cheapers rods the vengence and vedetta are alright.. JellyMan Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I have not used one yet but I have played with them in the store a little and really liked the look and feel of them. I am going to be picking up three. Two 7 foot MH rods. One for soft plastics and one for top waters and cranking. The other is gonna be a 7'3 MH for jigs and flipping with some braid. Quote

Good marketing Abu Its hard for me to see you write this stuff... People that have followed your post in the past might agree, you have been getting better but I have seen some post that I kept my mouth shut until this one. I think the Veritas is a great rod for its price, and feel NO need to go out and buy a 200 dollar rod to say I have one. I think the veritas is more than suitable for any situation I would run into. I honestly feel the verities covers every technique very well, the only place it MIGHT be able to improve is a jig rod. Even then I feel they are amazing rods, and wouldn't hesitate to buy one for jigging. I think this is coming from a kid that has never used one and is a brand fanboy, or asked for a 200+ dollar rod for Christmas and realized he could have gotten two nice rods for the price of one. It has nothing to do with advertising, the POSITIVE feedback comes back USERS, not people that picked one up at a bass pro shop. Sorry for the rant... 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 24, 2012 Super User Posted May 24, 2012 I've really enjoyed my Veritas (6'9" ML spinning) and this is coming from someone with more than enough high end rods... a few NRX's, GLX, IMX, Legend Elite, Champion Extreme, etc. Is it as nice as these other rods... of course not. However, it is right at the top of the list for $100 rods and more than adequate for anything you'd ever want to do. 2 Quote

That's cool, its light and sensitive Point being: good rod, Hmm seems like rational comments giving ones personal point of view. Being called out as a kid really reflects on the person making that comment and shows who the real fanboy might be, not being able to handle different opinions of a product. These are the same rods that had all the breakage issues, it might have been fixed but still many breakage issues, for every good comment posting I can find a post of a broken veritas. I think many products are over-hyped thats just natural to make ones self feel better of the things they have. Quote

I said so in my post. And i'm glad you dont feel a need to go out and buy a 200$ rod. I recently bought a G.Loomis at BPS just to see what a high-end rod was like. I used it once and returned it because I didn't need it, and I am satisfied with my current rods all of which cost less than $200. And with their rod line-up, they can cover just about any technique. They're versatile rods. I've used both the 7' M/F S, and the 6'9" MH/XF C to be specific. And yes I am a kid. What does that have to do with this? And would you please tell me what company I am a so called fanboy of? I think those comments are very disrespectful and rude. I did not ask for a 200$ rod for christmas, in fact, I didn;t ask for any rod from anyone. I think anything over $160-175 isn't worth the price tag in todays market. And it has a lot to with advertising actually. It's one of the most highly recognizable budget rods. It became there through advertising. If it wasn't marketed like it was, millions of people wouldn't have picked it up because they were unaware. And yes, positive feedback comes from users. But so does over-hyped "This rod is so great! Just as good as my x y z costing x y z .", Which I seem to see alot of concerning the Veritas on the internet. No need to apologize. How can it be "good marketing and over-hyped" if anglers are using the product with great results?? a lot of tourney & "recreational" anglers have great reviews on the veritas series. You partially answered your own question. Marketing is a lot of concepts, including advertising, promoting, target markets, blah blah blah. How do you think anglers found out about the Veritas? Many people saw the specs, components, the "nano-technology", and they wanted one, having never ever seen them or felt them, inclining them, both professional and recreational, anglers to purchase the rod. People went crazy for them. That's fantastic marketing on Abu Garcias part, they have always been good at that. Anglers love them, and have great results. That does not mean that people over-hype things. One of the many common things people like to do is, if they own something, they tend to give it great praise, but dont always recognize short comings of said product. It makes them feel better about their purchase. I am not bashing the Veritas rods. From my viewpoint the are over-hyped, and not what they are made out to be. I think they are great rods and am planning to purchase on in the near future. Quote
Stasher1 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Imho, BASSclary is correct. This happens every time a new $100 is released and becomes widely available. Those of us that have been here a while will remember when the Mojo was released and the overwhelmingly positive reviews that spewed forth from their owners, and we've since seen the Mojo go from "the best rod for $100" to "not bad, but you can do better". The Veritas is no different. It's a decent performing rod at a price-point that makes it easily attainable by just about anyone. No more, no less. To be perfectly honest, I don't find them to be all that impressive. The build quality on the ones I've handled isn't all that great, with crooked guides, excess epoxy everywhere, EVA grips that seem to be less durable than average, burrs on the reel seat threads, and a very club-like feel. I think the Carbonlite is a lighter and better feeling rod for the same price, but gets overlooked by many because it's a store-brand rod. Quote
