Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 16, 2012 Super User Posted May 16, 2012 Gall... what rod did you get for your lake fishing and why do you think you need a different rod/reel to fish the same species in streams? oe Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 16, 2012 Super User Posted May 16, 2012 I would take a serious look at the 6'3" M-F Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod, it is perfect for what you are going to do. Quote
gall Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 well mainly because my pond/lake rod is a 6'6 mh action and im throwing lighter baits so i wanted to stick with a slightly shorter rod with medium action and i saw sears was the cheapest my question is how well is sears with customer service just in case because i was thinking about going through them since they are about 20 dollars cheaper than anywhere else and yeah i decided on the 6'3 m/f rod Quote

outdoorsman110 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 out of the 3 rods how many were damaged One, and it was the UPS guy's fault. Quote

sparks63 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 The Fenwick rod is a great stick for sure but the St. Croix Avid, AVS69MLXF, matched with 2500 Stradic, makes up one of the best smallie combos out there. The rod is listed as drop shot specific, but there is not a single smallmouth technique that it can't handle! Tight lines! Scott Quote
gall Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 st croix is extremely nice but sadly i dont have that kinda money to shell out so ive decided with the fenwick it sounds like a great rod and everyone who owns one on here seems to love them Quote

I'm telling you dude, you'll be impressed. Eventually I'll switch all rods to Fenwick. The only rod that I have that's better than the Fenwick is my Loomis Bronzeback. Quote
gall Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 i believe it i mean for the money you cant beat it if i had money for a g loomis or st croix id go that root but im 20 years old i only work part time and honestly after gas and things like that all my money goes to bps ha while on the topic what are your guys favorite craw style baits ive been using the bps crack craw but noticed the claws break off easily and im on the hunt for something new similiar to those but a little more strong any suggestions? This is the best craw anybody has ever made, http://www.river2seausa.com/t/clackincrayfish.html Also look at the Live Target Craw, expensive but worth it. Both absolutely kill smallmouth on the rivers and creeks. Quote
gall Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 thanks man ive been using a lot of soft plastic ones cause all the lime stone i got in the creek but hands down they love craw dads more than anything else they will smash them when your slow crawling them across the rock i do like the river2sea cause the weedless guard which is real nice in my situation where the rock will catch it a lot Quote

Scott I disagree, I've fished that rod as my neighbor loves St. Croix and we fished his rod next to my Fenwick 6'9" M-XF and there was no difference in sensitivity and the Fenwick was lighter and had a better feel and it even made my neighbor sell his Avid and buy an Elite Tech. Not to mention that rod is too long for what Gall is looking for. The 6'3" M-F Fenwick is more suited to wading the small creeks that he is going to fish, anything longer will be problematic with low hanging trees and such and not to mention the price. I like the Avid, it is a great rod in my opinion but do;;ar for dollar the Fenwick is a much better buy as it is right there with the Avid in terms of Quality and performance at half the price. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 20, 2012 Super User Posted May 20, 2012 do;;ar for dollar I'm not sure where you're getting this "dollar for dollar" stuff... the various 17 Fenwick rods in my quiver won't be traded for St. Croix rods anytime soon... at any price. oe Quote
