Bass Junkie Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Ok, here ya go. Summer evening, right at dusk. Fishin' with my dad and grandpa. Hadn't caught much, my grandpa two twelve inchers and he missed a nice 'un. My dad had missed one and I didn't have a bite. I make a long cast onto the pads with my Stanley Ribbit Frog in Baby Bass. My dad says somethin' 'bout this bein a last cast, and all of a sunden I get a hit. I just casually set the hook, as this was far from my first toad fish and I have gotten somewhat used to the strikes. Then everything goes nutty. The fish rips to the right, pullin' drag. I fight the thing up to the boat, but now its so dark we can't see. The fish rolls around quite a bit before we net it. So we meausure this thing and its 22.5'', and right AROUND 7 1/2LBS!!! There ya go. Whole story. WHAT A FISH!!! Quote
central_fl_fishin Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 This one was the biggest that I was able to take a picture of. The flip-flop is a size 13. I guess it was about 6.5? What do you think? Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 ^That fish is broad and looks to be about that size. My biggest was on a chart purple back rapala glass fat rap in the small size believe it or not. 27 inch length and 20.5 girth. No scale,do the math on it.The amazing thing was it was kind of a fluke of a catch. It was post frontal and very cold that day and I wasn't getting bit by anything. Was getting pretty frustrated trying to position my jonboat on a grassline with the 20 mph north winds. I kept dragging grass with my bait then got mad and threw the lure as hard as I could out into the open water and started burning it back like a crazyman just to relieve some frustration, then she hit.It felt like a sack of potatoes and the bait just stopped dead in it's tracks.First thing I thought was it's a catfish so I got a little mad again and just started horsing like crazy. Then she jumped and my heart stopped. I had not yet witnessed in person at that point in my life a fish any larger than probably 7 pounds or so and I was trying to come to grips that that was actually a bass on my line.I never seen anything so huge and was living a dream for a moment.I woke up and I loosened the drag and played her very carefully since I was using braid line and found her just barely hooked in the rubbery part in the corner of her mouth by one single hook which was half straightened out, whew!,that was a close call.I was by myself and in a back pond off the freeway and held onto the fish for a little while in the hopes of seeing another soul who could witness the greatest moment in my fishing life and would have gladly paid anyone to take my picture, but never seen anyone else. It is my worst regret that I will probably never get a hold of another fish even close to as big as that one again in my life and I got no picture or nothing. I'm not big on pictures or bragging rights but every fisherman needs to have some sort of momento of their biggest catch. :-/ My second biggest is in my avatar and was 10.5 also on a rapala crankbait. Dt flat 7 purple back. All of my biggest fish from around here have been on cranks coincidentally, not large plastics or jigs. Quote
broncoboxer Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 My personal best is the one you see me holding in my avatar. She weighed in at around 4 pounds on an old spring scale (I didn't have a digital scale at the time). I caught her with a Zoom Super Fluke. The fluke's color was watermelon seed. I had T-Rigged that baby weightless and weedless using a Gamakatsu EWG hook (I think it was 4/0 but I could be wrong). It was caught in a friend's pond (1 acre or so). That pond was absolutely choked with weeds. Quote
KSRonH Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I've heard what is said about fisherman and streching the truth a little. Also heard there's about 25,000 members here. Waiting for about 24, 900 or so replies then i'll take my turn. LOL. Great catches guys!!! Quote
CRFisher Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Can't believe I fell for that. Not quiet sure how large my biggest are but the first was on a wave worms tiki stick in smoke Shadthe other was on a SK series 5 in sexy shad no weights on them but the first was right at 19" and the other was 19 3/4" Nice fish BigRickRolled.....have you ever tried any of these? Tend to catch alot of suckers on those Quote
Poolie727 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 This one is fresh on my mind. Caught this girl yesterday on a BPS Tigerfire spinnerbait with gold blades. Was slow rolling it along and thought I nailed a stump... except the stump was moving. I don't carry a scale, but she measured a little under 25" and was a little chunky so I would say she was easily 8lbs. Quote
bassman31783 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 The fish in my av is my biggest. 9lbs. Caught on a 5" Jaw Jack hollow body swimbait in the shad color. Quote
Fat-G Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 My biggest was caught on a 1/2 oz. Black and Blue Booyah jig with a 4" Chigger Craw, matching color. Caught her on a cold, rainy day in about 4 FOW. 25 inches, 8.2 lbs. Second biggest, 24.5 inches, 8 lbs. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted November 30, 2009 Super User Posted November 30, 2009 My biggest largemouth was 7lb-8oz caught on a pointer 128. My biggest smallie was 7lb-6oz caught on a rapala taildancer TDD-9. Quote
Chris Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Myself and a guy I went to school with decided to become partners for a upcoming tournament on East Lake Toho in Fla. Neither one of us had ever fished together and we decided to go fishing on Buck Lake to size each other up. Both of us talked a big game and it was put up or shut up. Mark was a big fan of FLW worms and in the beginning of the day would catch a fish and in a taunting voice say "look Chris FLW baby". As he continued catching these peanut fish and growing his ego we pulled around to a group of docks. One of the docks had a boat cover on it. Mark was in the front of the boat messing with his depth finder. I asked him how deep was it and he said 10 ft deep. I go into my tackle box and pull out a Berkley Frenzy and tie it on. In front of the dock was a lane and on the left was a wall of hydrilla. I made a cast up against the dock along the edge that the owner's boat cut out the weed growth. Mark said " Your not going to catch anything your using the wrong bait." Still ranting his FLW propaganda and still messing with his depth finder the boat drifted and spun. I made my cast to the left ran my bait down about 10 ft from where the weedline ended left of the covered dock and my bait stopped. I said "Mark there's one" Mark was like yeah whatever I said "Mark I got a fish!" about that time Mark looked up and 10 lbs of bass jumped out of the water in front of the boat. Mark said " you didn't tell me you had a pig" .....(Me) " I said I had a fish what did you think I was talking about." After I grabbed the fish I looked up at Mark who was shocked and said "Berkley Frenzy Baby! Screw that FLW crap." priceless..This isn't my largest bass but it meant a lot to me. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted December 1, 2009 Super User Posted December 1, 2009 My biggest LMB is shown in my avatar - 26" - 7lb 12oz (skinny guy) - caught just last month on a 3/8 oz Roostertail inline spinner thrown on a 6.5' baitcaster with 12lb mono. Pure luck - fishing off the bank and just tossing the spinner blind along the bank - must have conked him on the head and ticked him off and got a reaction bite ! Speaking of luck and inline spinners, I got a 20lb channel cat on a 1/4 oz Roostertail the month before that (September). It was a fun fish because I was using a 5.5' spinning rod with 6lb mono. It was clear water with no cover or other chance of a break-off so I just loosened the drag and let him take line - about 15 minutes to get him on the bank. Between that cat and this bass, I think I've just about used up all my fishing luck for quite a while. But Roostertails (of all things) are certainly now my "confidence baits" ! Quote
OIFBasser Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I caught this pig on an Eakins jig with a Paca craw. ;D Quote
hokiefisherman93 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Biggest LMB was a 10lb 2oz back three years ago pulled out of a local pond on a red and white chatterbait with a red trailer. I was messing around with my buddy chucked it out there on his rod, he reels right hand i reel lefty, and played a trick on him making him think i lost the bait. He failed to fall for it, and i started reeling it in only to feel it snagged on something. I thought d*** there goes a couple bucks, but it then started moving and after an awkward fight reeling with my right hand, i brought a 10lb 2oz up to the dock! Biggest Cat was a 30lb flathead pulled out of the james river on some cut up bluegill Quote
Jon86 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I caught a 9lb,14oz Largemouth on Sam Rayburn a couple years back on a 5" Senko in color 236. I caught it on August 30th in 8ft of water on the end of a Hydrilla point. I thought it was a bluegill bite a first till I felt it swimming away and when I set the hook, oh lord the fight was on!
