Fat-G Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Fishing dark murky water mostly, but have a couple clear bodies. Which ones, and which lens color? Oakley has a pair that looks good on me Costa has the best lenses (I'm assuming) And Kaenon... Forget Kaenon haha Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted May 14, 2012 Super User Posted May 14, 2012 Oakley's look cool, but so do some Costas. And Costas lenses are faaarrrrr superior to that of any others. If you want something a little more mainstream, look at Smith's sunglasses. Those are very nice lenses as well, right up under Costa. Maui Jims are nice also, but they just dont have frames I like. Michael DiNardo Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I was told by a salesperson in a specialty sunglass shop, that Maui Jim and Costa (580 G) have the same lens tech. Everyone seems to say that the Costa's have the best lenses for fishing purposes. This is just what I've heard. Mike Quote
scrutch Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I have a pair of Maui Jim Offshores and I love the lenses but don't like the frames. I think I might try Costas 580G lenses next. I tried a pair on at the Roadtrip and loved the fit of the frames. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 14, 2012 Super User Posted May 14, 2012 I got a pair of polarized UA glasses off the bay the other day for $40 and they are GREAT! They have the Brown polarized lenses and I can see fish way better with them than my other 2 pairs of UA glasses or my Strike Kings. Quote

Just remember to get the frame you tried on and loved, I swear I tried on every pair when I was looking and they all had a different fit/feel to them Quote
scrutch Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 You know Tom, I noticed that too but had forgotten about it until you mentioned it. Thanks. I'm pretty sure that my new "buying policy" will be to try them on first and not get them online. For me the fit is crucial. If they're just a little off, it feels terrible (which is exactly the case with my Maui Jim's). Quote
andrew_rigsby Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Heres my two cents. I own a pair of Oakleys, Coastas, and Natives, all polarized. I pretty much only wear the Costas. I have been wearing them for about three years. Here are some reasons why. I love the clarity they provide in the water as well as the comfortable feel they have on my face. I also have had some AMAZING encounters with Costas customer service department. I wore out gel on the left side of my glasses that goes behind the ear piece, but they were three years old. I sent them into costa, explained how they just wore out and that I love them and wear them all the time and they sent them back to me free of charge and fixed them. They even replaced the nosepieces because "they were worn" all free of charge. I am a firm beleiver in quality customer service and Costa has that. Quote
Osprey39 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I just got a pair of these from TW: http://www.solarbat.com/products/nocs-1005 Reasonably priced, good lenses and to my pleasant surprise they are made in USA (something I highly doubt any of the other brands mentioned in this thread can claim.) Because of that last fact, I am going to buy this brand solely from now on. We don't make much in the USA anymore and companies that make stuff here at a good price should be rewarded IMO. Quote

Well Oakleys are made in USA. Coasta not sure but think HQ is in Florida. Quote
Osprey39 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Well Oakleys are made in USA. Coasta not sure but think HQ is in Florida. Did not know that but I wouldn't pay the $ they want for those anyway. I have a pair of Revos that cost $249 when I got them and there's really nothing that special about them other than the metal in the frames is heavier than normal. I remember when Oakley first hit the scene and they were not too pricey but they are so popular now, that is no longer the case. Quote

Costa Del Mar's HQ is in Florida, but they are manufactured in numerous places including Japan, Italy, France, Mauritius, and Taiwan. However, the older models were in fact made here in the USA. One manufacturer does that and gets a competitive advantage and the rest follow suit. Kind of sad really. Quote

jerzeeD Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I am an Oakley guy. I got my first pair at 16, and still wearing Oakleys 20 years later. I guess I have gotten comfortable with them. I currently have a set of polarized half jackets. The price was right at 120 dollars new on ebay. I mighy consider Costas someday.... But I am a loyal guy. When I find a company that makes a quality item that I am happy with, I am a hard sell to switch. I have that view on all items I need to purchase in life. From sunglasses (Oakleys) to reels (Pflueger) to trucks ( Toyota). It seems half the time I deviate from what has worked for me, I wind up disappointed. Quote
