AvidAngler Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 So ive been reading a lot and trying to figure out new cool ways to fish and what not. ive seem to come across a conclusion about myself and that is, that i don't really care what fish im catching as long as im catching fish. I love to fish for bass in particular though just becuase i feel like its a community/club kinda thing. everyone goes and racks up a crap load of different bass lures/jigs/worms/swimbaits etc.. and i just feel like bass fishing is more fun because of that aspect. everyone wants to catch the fish on something they have never tried. BUT. i never ever see anyone posting about live bait at all. i wanted to start trying to catch my own minnows or buying them either one and then seeing what i catch. ive heard from countless people saying live bait will get you fish everytime. and i realize why. but i don't understand why people don't post more about using it. Do you not like how it changes the speed you fish? or do you think its cheating? i think it would be cool but i also think its less rewarding to catch them on live bait. just a thought. Quote
Hot n Tot Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I used to use night crawlers and minnows that I'd trap when I lived on a lake. Honestly, I don't think live bait works any better day in and day out, and is not really worth the hassle. I only use artificial now and haven't touched live bait in years. Quote
TxBankFisherman Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 get a cast net... When the bite got tough on a local lake I used to fish... in the heat of the summer... would fish all day, then catch perch before it got dark.. used a lighted bobber and fished closed to trees with the perch... it was a lot cooler and the fish bit a lot better.... we caught bass to 6 lbs. big catfish and got broke off a few times 2... flyeaglesfly5186 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I like to spend an hour catching smaller pan fish at the lake on small chunks of worms then taking them to the river. Baiting them on a 2/0 or bigger bait hook then tossing them in the river for smallmouth. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I love walleye fishing just as much as bass fishing so I usually carry some live bait with me mostly minnows or crawlers in case I end up some where that a walleye bite might be possible. Always catch bass on it as well. Nothing wrong with it all about what you like to do. Quote
hatrix Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 In the dead of summer or when I'm lazy I will use a small BG with a bobber. Generally though I think artificial baits will out fish live bait almost all the time. It depends on what fish your targeting also. For example artificials won't beat shiners when you get on a school of perch. Quote
