Mr Wasabi Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Been lurking along and reading all the excellent info here to get me back up to speed on the latest. I currently live in Florida but spent my younger years doing a lot of fishing back in Pa. I mostly fished for trout, smallmouth, catfish and various pan fish. I've been in Florida for about 25 years now and have done some light fishing here and there but never really got back into it. A few weeks ago, I grabbed one of my kids cheapo casting poles rigged up with a knock-off Daredevil spoon and hooked a little crappie within about 5 minutes. Thought to myself, heck, this is fun, why haven't I been doing this all this time since I can just walk out the back of my house and be at the pond within 25 yards? I've seen various people over the years land some fairly large bass back there. What the heck, I need a new hobby so I'm taking up fishing (again) after 30 years. Well at first I went out to Walmart and bought a bunch of stuff just for the buzz of getting some new fishing stuff. Then I hit Dick's and bought even more stuff. Thought to myself I better start reading up on things or I'm going to have a pile of stuff I don't need or may not be the best for the job. I did get one nice spinning combo, a Shakespeare Crusader, for about $20 from Walmart that is a nice setup to cut my teeth on. Knowing me, I need something a little better though. The Crusader setup could eventually be a nice second, third (or 15th rig). I didn't want to break the bank (just yet) so after some reading I bought a 6' Ugly Stik Lite, a Pflueger Arbor 7435 spinning reel and some 55lb (10lb) Samurai braid (got it cheaper of eBay). I also bought a bunch of lures, soft baits (yep, Yamamoto Senkos and Flappin' Hogs), hooks, etc. and a decent small tackle bag. Now I'm ready to be a bass catching machine. My wife is even going to buy me a couple new Guy Harvey shirts...lol. Eventually, I'll hit the saltwater and try some fly fishing. I loved fly fishing for trout back in the streams of the Pa mountains. For now though, I'll tackle largemouth bass. Well, that's it. Thought I'd introduce myself before I start spewing questions and ramblings upon this board o vast knowledge. Happy fishin' eveyone. Quote
