Hi, I'm Brielle from Northern Kentucky and I KIND OF learned how to fish last summer and a little the summer before. I moved to San Diego not to long ago and I really dont care to do any deap sea fishing. Fresh water fishing doesn't seem too popular out here so if anyone has any suggestions let me know!!! I would love to know the best place for bass and/or catfish and rod and reel suggestions too!

Thanks,

Brielle

Brielle, welcome to the forum. Wonderful having you with us.

Two suggestions to consider now that you are in beautiful southern California.

First, suscribe to Bass West Magazine. I think you will learn a lot about California fishing.

Second, keep us up to date on what is going on in your area. Many presentations and techniques are first used in California and if you can share that data with us we all will be appreciative.

Here is Bass West's Facebook page. You may want to add it to your Facebook favorites.

http://www.facebook.com/basswestusa?ref=ts

And check out http://www.facebook.com/basswestusa?ref=ts#!/yamamotobaits on Facebook, too. Suscribe to his email magazine.

I think you will love southern California and also have fun learning how they fish out there.

Don't forget to let us know what you find out.

Be sure to add the two suggested Facebook pages from your own page as I noticed the pages are from my page. Thanks.

Nice another person in San Diego. Lake hodges in Escondido pretty much sucks, if you have a boat you might be able to get a few fish, people do report several 10 pounders a week. San Diego river is supposed to be good but I have never fished it. Pretty much all the lakes suck except El Capitan. Barret Lake is good also but is only opened May-September and costs $80. Lake San Marcos is great but is private. Freshwater fishing isn't popular because it pretty much sucks. I suggest you fish the bays for Spotted bay bass. Use a 3 inch Big Hammer swimbait on a 3/8oz head. Also don't know if this is aloud but these are two good forums. http://www.oceanicangler.com/ http://www.sdfish.com/ The first one isn't for only San Diego but everything on there is from San Diego. In the summer I suggest you go out on a 1/2 boat and fish for calico bass. Fish swim baits with weedless heads right on top of the kelp.
