hey, i have an old bass boat and want to install a trolling motor flush controller, something like this:

http://www.pitstopmarine.com/product_info.php?products_id=738

my question is, can i just cut the fiberglass deck and install it?? or is it filled with foam or some flotation material i cannot remove?? i am assuming if the part under the storage is empty, i wouldnt have a problem, but if it has some material i dont know if i can remove just enough material to fit the tray with the pedal.

the boat is a 1970-1980 bassboat, it says King Fisher on the side plate, i think 15 or 16 feet long....

thanx

I don't know how the wiring is set up in that boat. When my Champion was done, I just couldn't cut the deck so I took it to a marine shop and paid 100 bones to get it done. They thought all was clear but there was a tube with wiring in it that they cut so they had to do some rewiring.

And yes it should be full of foam which you can just dig out till you get room enough for the tray to fit.

neither do it!! but i guess i will have to find out when i cut it... in case i need to rewire (which i doubt) well, then i will have to rewire.... my only concern was removing the foam... but now that you tell me its not a problem, i will have to get my dremel an begin cutting it out....

thanx!!

i think i will Shawn!! even though i have never seen one in person, i have read its a nice thing to have, and since i am restoring the boat, i figured out i could do that upgrade as well.... i saw you have it in one of your boats, how does it compares with not having it? is it really that good?

Its nice , its a lot easier on the back and you have much more balance. I made mine out of plywood I had lying around..

yes i saw you made yours with plywood... we are going to get some fiberglass to repair some parts of the boat, i was thinking about doing it with that, or having a local shop bend me some sheet metal....

now i have a question.... what do you do if a wave enters the boat?? i mean, wont the flotation chamber will be filled with water through that hole?? does the chamber has a drain?? or should i cut the hole and then perfectly seal it to prevent water from coming it??

They attach a hose to the drain hole that feeds any water coming in too the bilge area.

so, i have to attach a hose from the flotation chamber to the bilge area?? and where in the flotation chamber should i put it?? what if i try to seal it with fiberglass?? would this work??

No, you attach the hose to the foot well you're installing, this way the foot well acts like a funnel bringing the water / rain that falls into it, to the bilge area to then be removed by the pump/plug.
