Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 19, 2012 Super User Posted July 19, 2012 Each to his own. I've been using 10lb Nanofil on two spinning rods since last June and 8lb on another spinning rod this Spring each tied to a monofilament leader. I fish often for smallmouth over rocky points and flats. I can't remember any of the Nanofil breaking. Last night was a typical example. Waited until 7pm to better manage the heat. Fished until 9pm over a boulder covered reef. Used a Lucky Craft Gunfish and Rapala Flat Rap. Boated 2 large white bass, a 25" walleye and ~2 dozen smallies 15" - 17". Same rod and line the entire evening (10lb Nanofil with 10 lb Sensation leader). The leader was pretty beat up at night's end but the NanoFil held up as well or better than Sufix 832 I've used fishing this area in past seasons. With use I've learned to tie effective knots and trust the NanoFil as much as any previous line I've fished. oe Quote
Canga Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 i used the 8lb nanofil this spring and had the same line breaking at the reel issues as a lot of people, been using that reel for a 2ish years now and never had any problems, went over the roller, bail and surrounding area with a q-tip and didnt find any burrs, so i dont think its the reel (reel was a pflueger supreme xt 9035, the gold model). otherwise i like the line. i decided about 2 weeks ago to give it another, and last, try. went with 10lb this time, hoping that would stop the breakage issuse, spooled it up on my patriarch 9530, and so far havent had any problems with it. the only thing i dont like abou the line is the memory, berkley claims it has zero memory, BS, stuff is coily as hell. its great for moving baits, but for bottom contact i think the coils would bother me. for my jigging and dropshot stuff, ill stick with 832 and super slick power pro. Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted July 20, 2012 Super User Posted July 20, 2012 Nanofil 6# has better sensitivity than PPS8S 10#, been switching between the two on a Legend Elite noticeable difference at that useing senko and caffine shad. I too had some knot issues til I messed around with different knots a modified UNI knot took my knot strength to over 9# with 6# nano no breaks since knot change. All my breakage when fish got stuck in weeds with 6# just couldnt horse 'em out, S8S you can though weeds and all. So for maximum distance with light weight presentations & VERY good sensitivity nanofil is good stuff just not a power line. Quote
