Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 Finally made it out fishing in Kuwait and omg im hooked forget fresh water these fish are beasts I need help identifying them though. I only got video of mine ill try to post it im not sure how but ill describe it best I can. I thought it was a cuda it was long and slender but no teeth pointy mouth though silver with like tiger stripes almost. i caught it on a sabiki rig screwing around trying to find the depth till my drag started singing. then I caught a queens fish i think it was the coast guard called it kings fish from what i looked up before they were queen. that came on a deep diving jerk bait Then theres the shark first fish of the day bit a spoon it was sweet my buddy caught it though Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Super User Posted May 10, 2012 I did a google search I think the one I lost on the Sabiki rig was a Kingfish and the others were the Queenfish they were schooling pretty good ill get a double before i leave for sure if they act like this. we also seen some fish that looked like angel fish then some that looked like rockbass or google eyes but they were black and white tiger stripes. one of the guys caught one on a piece of bread then hooked it threw the tail and tossed it out. he was using an UL with 6lb test we seen a shark go for it next thing a know his spool was bare and his head was hanging low lol. Thats one thing I gotta learn is i cant muscle these fish like I do bass man feeling them run and shake there heads that drag singing. What kinda shark is that if you can tell from the pic Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 Looks like a young Black Tip Reef Shark....nice work on the good day of fishing Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 Unless they have different names for fish there you didn't catch a kingfish on a sabiki. The queeenfish is probably a queen triggerfish. Might be a little blacktip reef shark, just so many different species of them. There are blacktips(deep water and pretty big) blacktip reef sharks ( smalland close to shore) and there are reef sharks( up to 200# and off reefs) You muscle those fish and you won't land them. You must trust your drag and let those fish run, steadily increasing the drag if needed, but don't over do it. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Super User Posted May 10, 2012 most the sharks were around 2 -3ft that one was maybe a little over 2ft id say. The kingfish or what ever it was it looked like identical to this here but much darker vertical lines i wish i could get the video to up load so u can see it but it says its to big even though its like 15 seconds long. Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Super User Posted May 10, 2012 thats exactly what the other fish schooling looked like but with bright bright yellow fins like in the drawing one they hit like a freight train and just ran with it. the shark surprisingly didnt give up much of a fight we cranked him right to the top and walked down to a lower part of the pier and yanked it out maybe a 5 min fight if that Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 It may be something in the mackerel family, kingfish have a different pattern, almost looks like a wahoo. A sabiki rig is use for catch bait like sardines, not likely a sabiki rig could hold a king or wahoo, hooks are too small and the line is 7#, they do make bigger ones though. Whatever the second fish is, it's awesome, that's a pretty stout rod too, good for what you are doing. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Super User Posted May 10, 2012 what is this lure also we picked one up gonna give it a shot Quote

Super User MCS Posted May 11, 2012 Super User Posted May 11, 2012 Nice fish. The vids work. I tried to look it up myself there are plenty of pictures of queenfish and it looks like what you guys got, but not a lot of info the most info are from australian websites. http://www.sea-ex.com/fishphotos/queenfis.htm http://www.barramundi-fishing-adventure.com/nt-fish-guide.html Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2012 You need a pier net https://encrypted-tb...ITn0j5L9kVkjrBw where can I get one of them and how much do they usually run Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 11, 2012 Super User Posted May 11, 2012 I don't know about Kuwait. but it's pretty standard equipment that can be bought in most tackle shops that cater to saltwater fishing. The same need would apply to fishing off a freshwater pier, some local shops may carry them and they can always be bought on line, priced 30-40$ Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2012 I found it at BPS for 50 they sell nets here but there these short little things. The shops here sell the cheapest of cheap stuff there rod and reel combos make cheap walmart stuff look like top dollar shimanos and there lures come with the cheapest finish and hooks only good for about 1 fish every lure we have is only a day old and hooks are bent and rolled over tips its all junk. I ordered a bunch of spoons from BPS last night and some line, a big rattle trap, 10 sabiki rigs. Im gonna see if some of the gus wanna pitch in and order a net. Quote
