The American Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 What do you guys think about the Powell Diesel? The crankbait model on TW is rated btw 1/4-3/4. This is advertised as a "medium-heavy", and says it can handle deep cranks. Would you throw deep cranks on this rod? I'm talking deep cranks within the rods rating like a DD22, or a fat free BD7. How about more? Say a 1oz Strike King 6xd, or a crank that goes <20' Quote
msolorio Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 get all the diesel rods, theyre awesome. dont be afraid of the price or the no warranty thing. ive never ever broken a rod and im pretty hard on my stuff at times. these rods are every bit as good as the max and endurance series. Quote
UWBass Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I bought one. It's incredible for the price tag. Very lightweight and has flex but definitely seems to hold up relatively well to its MH power rating. I've only thrown squarebills and some DT-6's and DT-10's on it. Plenty of power for all of those uses. You might be a little undergunned for a DD22, but I am sure it would be passable, just not ideal. I throw bigger deeper cranks on my St.Croix Legend Tournament 7'10 Heavy Moderate. That rod costs some bills but it is the real deal for big cranking. I would still purchase the Diesel Glass in a heartbeat though. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I just picked one up from TW and so far pretty please. I have thrown DT's(6-10-14) with no issues. Quote

I've caught 10 or 12 stripers on it (12-18lbs) and it's handled them beautifully. I've caught several LM on it too. These rods are fantastic really. $70? I wonder if they will remain at that price point. I'm buying more for sure. I'm getting the glass and the 7'6. Go for it man!! Quote

A glass rod that would probably work and won't break the bank is the Lamiglas Excel 705 Glass. Quote
Dave P Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I ran 5 and 6 xds this weekend with no issues at all. There's enough backbone to handle it. Quote
