Siebert Outdoors Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I'm heading that way next week and needing some info on the lake of whats going on moslty around the St Clair shores area but anywhere in US waters will be helpful. Thanks!! Quote
Sfritr Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I will be up there on the 23-24th. We always fish from 9mile to metro point. Goby tubes, flukes, jerkbaits, and dropshots always produce. Also, if you get hungry, head in by nine mile to Kens Marina. Best burgers on the lake. A buddy of mine was out last week and said the fish were shallow in 5-9FOW and they were all fat. He boated 60 fish ranging from 2-4lbs on tubes, rattletraps, and jerkbaits Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Thanks! I'm hoping that pattern holds and possible the fish move up a tad more. Which I think they will with Detroits weather forecast for the next 10 days. Any idea what the water temp was? Kens Marina huh? I've never been there but if I can find it I'll check it out. Thats about the same area I'm going to fish. I'll probably run down into the river a tad too if I want to for walleye but thats a completely different idea and depends on the smallies. What ramp do you use? 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 7, 2012 Super User Posted May 7, 2012 Gman, smallies here on Ontario have been moving in shallow for about two or three weeks now. Cold weather shuts them off a bit, but they are there. The jerkbait bite is on, as is the trap bite. I wish I could have a report from this weekend for you, but it was just too windy, and had to go to plan b. Here's a jb smallie from two weekends ago: Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Thats what I'm looking for. Big momma smallies! I'm hoping for 50-60# days. Couple years ago that was a slow day for us. We will see what happens. I'm shopping for tubes right now since I only have about 3 dozen different kinds. LOL Quote
Air Blair Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I am heading up to LSC one week from today and can't wait! This will be my 'virgin' trip to this great fishery and I am hoping for sore thumbs from handling all the fish we will catch!!!! Quote

What ramp do you use? We almost always launch from the 9mile marina, just behind the hotel and Cell Tower. Cheap, and I have never launched there when there was a long line of boats. Kens Marine is actually part of that marina. 586-775-9274 24770 Jefferson Ave. Saint Clair Shores, MI 48080 Quote
whittler1 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Plan to be there on the 5/14- 5/16 A bad day on St.Clair is better than a good day just about anywhere else I have ever been for smallmouth. For years I used to go to Dale Hollow, Cumberland or one of the other Tennesee impoundmants but 1 trip to St.Clair and I have naver had any desire to go south again. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks Sfritr, I try that ramp out. I'm ready to go. Just waiting on go time. I hope the fishing and weather are good. Quote
Sfritr Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Good Luck and post pics! Kens is definately NOT a sit down eatery LOL. It is a marina gas and supply shop on the water in the marina at the point. After a long morning on the water, they grill your burgers fresh and have all the fixins. Extremely friendly, and can provide towing etc. if stranded. Now you are getting me all pumped.... BTW Last year we found the weedbeds on the south side of the 16mile metro point bend to hold quality LM as well as some huge pike and musky. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks! I hope you catch a bunch when your there also. I think I know the weed bed your talking about. Several years ago my buddy lost a monster musky in that area. I'll probably make a run to the firecracker too. Its not a "hotspot" but sometimes good for a good smallie or two. Quote
Michbassin Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 The Selfridge area is pretty good from 5-8 FOW using tubes and traps Quote
Michbassin Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Right now I would go to the Mile Roads, the water was much clearer. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Really good. Once I get my pictures I'll be posting up a report. Sat was the best day. We fished about 12 hrs and ended up around 100 Bass Large and small mouth. Biggest was 5.5lbs Smallie. All on tubes and jerkbaits. Mostly tubes. Quote

whittler1 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Had a great trip, only bad part was we only had 3 days. We fished out of Selfridge and the smallies were going strong with most averaging in the 2-4lb with my best two fish at 5lb.4oz. and 6lb.12oz.. If there is anything those fish won't hit we did not find it. Wed morning it rained and after the rain the wind really kicked in and by 1:00 we put it on the trailer, fishing was still good but the waves were getting to be too much. Hope to get back the first week in June. Quote

Scorcher214 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Nice fellas. I gotta get a boat so I can get out there! Quote
Packard Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Nice fellas. I gotta get a boat so I can get out there! No need for a boat. You can kayak fish it like any other body of water. Quote
