Bass_Akwards Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Guys, water is cold. Probably 45. Air temps 60-65 so i HAVE to get out there and fish. My guess is that I need to downsize and I'm a rookie Jig fisherman who wants to throw a jig and trailor. I was thinking of perhaps going with a 1/16oz jig(no idea what make or model), and either a 2" twin tail grub or maybe a a Zoom Skinny Chunk. I need your advice as to what kind of jig you guys love to downsize with, that still can target larger bass in the area you're fishing. Is 1/16oz the best idea generally? Also, are the trailors I mentioned worth it? Do you guys have better ideas for smaller trailors in mind? Thanks! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted November 27, 2009 Super User Posted November 27, 2009 My favorite would be a bitsy jig, 3/8oz in black and blue, and a Rage Tail Baby Craw (matching color). Been doing okay with that in my colder water. In fact, besides that set up, the only other thing catching me any fish right now, is a Chatterbait, same colors and trailer. Just fish real slow! Quote
Fat-G Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Stanley 1/4 oz. Green Pumpkin Jig with a Paca Jr. Trailer. Good combo! Fish on a spinning rod, because you tend to fish slower and with a more finesse approach. Quote
GRiver Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Stike king 3/16th green and brown, with a paca chunk in green pumpkin. Quote
flipinstick88 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 5/16th Eraser jig with a Zoom baby super chunk. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10203974_100006000_100000000_100006000_100-6-0 Quote
Chris Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 What I have done for several years is take a lighter bitsy jig 1/8 oz or under and take the middle size zoom jig chunk and instead of placing it on the jig like a pork chunk thread the hook like you would with a grub. This flares out the skirt and the jig will glide more on the fall. Rig it fatty side up on the hook. This has been a great rig for me that works well cold water. Quote
aarogb Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 A good one for me is a Jewel 5/16 oz. Eakins' jig, trailed with a tiny or baby size Paca Craw. Quote

I am not affiliated with him as I am just a customer but these work. I suggest ordering whatever your most productive color and pairing it up with a Zoom tiny chunk or Uncle Josh pork 101. He has made custom colors for me in the past and I can say these worked in 36 degree water for SM here in Maryland. Allen Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Booyah baby boo jig with a baby ragetail craw. Absolutely deadly. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 The small jigs I like are the Booyah Baby Boo and Bed Bugs and Strike King Bitsy Bug and Bitsy Flip. I'm also thinking about trying the Berklet Ike's Finesse Jigs. As for a trailer, I like the Yamamoto Baby Craws. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I like a Boo Baby with a tiny paca trailer. I use a green pumpkin here but you need to match your local crawfish coloring. Quote
hookset on 3 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I like the Black Angel Finesse jig with an Uncle Josh Finesse Phantom Frog. Siebert Outdoors Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 in cold water I use a round head weedguard jig in 5/16-3/8 with a short skirt, 2" trailer. I still use a little heavier jig head but try to use a smaller profile. Quote

Primus Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 This one is a little pricey but like the Kietech Tungsten Casting Jig Model 1 in the 1/4 oz. size with a 2-3/4" Yum Craw Papi as a trailer. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 Keitechs and Skinny Bears don't work, LOL. Quote
