Super User Hooligan Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 I've known Mike for about 12 years now and have gone fishing with him - 3 times so far. We also email, talk on the phone, and even Skype every now and then. And I can attest, there is no "act". What you see, is about as real as it gets. That's how he is. Passionate, enthusiastic, and not afraid to show his emotions. As for an "Ike moment", I haven't had one quite like that, although I did let out a very, very loud yell when I lost a 6 1/2 pounder during a tournament once. And I also witnessed my fishing buddy break his rod after losing a 5 pound smallie during a tournament. Ya, we all lose it every now and then. We ALL do. Don't judge lest ye be judged. I'm glad you think that of him, Glenn. I, on the other hand, have had different impressions of him in person; obviously I don't know him as well as you. At no point, in any thing I said, did I say I don't respect him. Just because I do not like his actions, or the way he represents himself doesn't mean I don't respect what he's done. His book is enlightening, certainly, but it doesn't change the way I feel about his actions on and, in some situations, off the water. 2 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 Every now and then a thread evolves into a topic about M.I. specifically. The OP question was "have you Iconelli'd ?" The issue is not what M.I.'s merits and shortcomings are, but what are yours? 1 Quote

I think philosophical replies should be up there with the religious and political rules since they are just as similar. Quote

lou304 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 can't say I've ever thrown one, per say, but i have tossed one down in anger a few times. That was before I started buying higher end stuff! On the other hand, I have hooted and hollered a few times when i got the big one!!! Quote
scrutch Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I just busted a crankbait when I went "Ike". I think I'd be pretty upset with myself if I busted one of my Dobyn's. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted May 11, 2012 Super User Posted May 11, 2012 I like to follow the lead of the world's greatest athlete. I enjoy "Going Tiger"! Woods makes a habit of cursing both bad shots and spectators with cameras, pounds clubs into the ground or throws them at his caddy or bag, and don't forget those fist pumps and other theatrics when he is on the green. All this done within a sport that was always played in hushed tones and whispers before he got there. So has anyone thought of emulating a player in any other sport? Imagine being the backseater to a Bobby Probert fan. Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I probably cuss more in conversation than I do when I get upset. I've had times I've jumped up and down and look at my partner...buts it's always more like "did you see that!!!" lol And i've hit my buddy in the arm before. lol I don't get mad though. I love fishing too much. It excites the crap out of me as soon as I see or feel that fish until the fight is over. My adrenaline is going and I love every aspect of it. Nothing to get mad about there. NOW...after its done. I'll hate myself for being such an idiot. I mean, how much of a genius do you have to be to trick some little green slimy thing 100X smaller than you to get in a boat. Quote
