I-Motion Technique

I recently bought some of the I-motion shads (soft plastics) from TW and some of the I-Motion jig heads (much like an inchi-wacky/jighead wacky jig- very light wire, light weight). I hadn't done much research but knew it was for a straight, "do-nothing" retrieve...I have a friend of a friend who has been swearing by this for years...more than 5 years but it's simply he nose-hooks a senko and retrieves it STRAIGHT. Like a crankbait, just reel.

Now when I got the shad/jighead combo I admittedly expected a LITTLE action from the bait, very subtle but maybe something...they run STRAIGHT.

So to shorten it...I have caught quite a few fish in the only week or so I've had this tackle BUT none on this straight retrieve...I've danced it and bounced it off the bottom and it has INCREDIBLE action this way...I saw the ICast video of jackall president or owner speaking about fishing it different ways so just wondering if anyone's caught fish STRAIGHT retrieve?

When I first started whacky rigging, there were no senkos, and it was called a Jersey rig. When I started doing that, I also started trying different ways to hook a plastic for different action. Just like anything else, sometimes a straight retrieve will get them, and sometimes you need to slow it down. What I love about soft plastics is the nearly unlimited ways of rigging and fishing them. The variety of lures we have now is incredible, too. I have caught fish on a whacky rigged clearance bin Lil Fishie. You never know.

I love this set up but the iShads are hard to find around here and I don't order much offline so I use zoom super flukes. Iv had amazing success with it I usually do like a twitching retrieve and when I get it close to cover I kill it and let it sink that's usually when I get bit. That or i just toss it into some brush or tree limbs let it sink on a slack line count to 10 or so close my bail and start to lift then I reel in the fish cuz its works everytime.

as far as catching on a straight retrieve uhm maybe a few not nearly as many a twitching it i think more pike then anything and that's after doing the twitch and the last few feet before the bank just bringing it in straight and they grab it last second.

I haven't tried the " I-Motion " technique,but I have tried the I-Shad. Works really well using a technique called bottom bugging. Pretty much you just reel the bait slow and steady on the bottom. Definitely gets bit, but not so durable. One, maybe two fish per bait. The I-Motion technique sounds like a killer for dock fishing though.

I noticed this as well but some times I would have 1bait last several like more then 10 fish then others would get ripped off from just hits never even hooking a fish and of course the pike destroyed it. I started using the baby or mini zoom super fluke jr what ever there name is the smallest ones available. They held up slightly better and yielded same results they caught me alot of fish.

Also I might add that on a day I was all out of good baits for it and had a pile of baits with the nose ripped up I started to experiment with side hooking it like threw a flap on a super fluke it slowed the fall rate and kinda i mean kinda shimmied down like a senko it got bites it definitely got bit but it was like a 1 maybe 2 fish catch per bait then they were pretty useless. I tried tail hooking it as well got a few but not many bites and it would rip off coming threw brush or thick grass.

I just picked up the Jackall nose jig heads for this technique. Looking forward to trying this with some of the new drop shot lures. Things like the dreamshot, z-drop etc.

Any others try this yet?
