The ring inside the tip guide in my rod has broken. I lost the ring in the mud. I need to go about replacing the tip, and/or guide itself. I have never had to do this before, therefore I need some insight on how to do this. I'm not even sure if it is worth my time, as it is a relatively cheap rod (BPS Graphite Series), but i would like to save a bit of money from buying a new one.

Not sure if this image helps at all.

cut it off and purchase a Fuji Rod Tip repair kit, it'll replace the entire tip. I use it quite a bit, hope this helps:)

Where do I cut? I apologize. I'm a little new to this.

This video was made by a fellow member of this forum, this should help more. Personally, I cut my guide with my ugly sticks, with rods that are special to me I use the heat gun.

Perfect! Thank you so much!

I wouldn't cut it off, may cause too much damage to the blank. Most tiptops are just stuck on with hot melt glue, warm it gently, no torching!, and it should slide right off. Get a Fuji kit as Outdoorsman suggests, or many tackle shops sell single tiptops. The tube size is measured in 64's of an inch so a size 8 is really 8/64 in diameter. Use a drill index to size it. If you can't find one, go to Mudhole.com, they'll set you up.

You can take the rod to a tackle shop that repairs rods and they can repair it very inexpensively.

Or locate a bass club in your area and try to find someone who knows how to fix rods and watch them make the repairs.

If you are going to do it yourself, take the above advice and give it a shot. Let us know what happens.

Very well written by the way, it's not often you see kids our age using proper grammar.

I'm going to make a trip to get that repair kit later today. I'll let you know how that goes :confused50:

As for the grammar: Literacy is the basis of wisdom, in my opinion.

Your opinion should be a fact. :)

No cutting. Gentle heat to soften the glue and pull the old tip straight off, do not twist.

A hair blow dryer will usually get the job done. Try the hair dryer before using a flame.

If literacy is the basis of wisdom I'm screwed :) English has never been my strong point.

I FINALLY got around to removing the broken guide. I apologize for the delay in response: I've been extremely busy with several recent events. I heated the tip, just enough to melt the sealant that secured the tip in place. I slid this piece off, carefully, as it was brittle. No damage was done to the rod. I continued to remove the remainder of the resin from the rod. I haven't came across an opportunity to buy a replacement tip, but i eventually will. I appreciate your assistance and input. You were all extremely helpful. I know that I can certainly trust Bass Resource and its members with all of my questions pertaining to fishing. Thanks again!
