so i have fished aba for 3 years and had some pretty good success as a nonboater. its everyone against every one and our rules are that all nonboaters have the boat for half the day. this happened at stockton lake mo and we started out hit points where my boater wanted to fish and he was throwing the A rig with no success and i was killing the short fish with a xcalibur twitch. so as any angler would do he switched to what he called a stickbait but again not catching the fish i was so we ran to another part of the lake. he had zero fish and i had 3 smaller keepers. he started paralling the bank throwing a wiggle wart and started catching fish like crazy. but he forgot one thing me lol. the only cast he gave me was the ones where he had to back off the bank to miss stumps and rocks. so finally as he backed off the bank i ripped one up in front of the boat and he had enough nerve to tell me hey u see the amaginery line in the middle of the boat dont cross it i laughed cus thats all i could do and finally let him have it and after that i sat in the boat full of frustration. to top it off he told me that if i wanted to catch fish in a tourny i need to get my own boat and be glad that i had the oppertunity to fish at all. i fished out the day when i could and finished 6th place infront of him. that was a laugh but not cool. i told the guy i weighted in behind and he went to the director but she said it was to late cus scales where closed and is this right what should i have done?

Well the first thing I have to ask is did you tell him he wasn't giving you room to throw?

I fish as a co-angler in a local club, I would not fish as one if I had to fish against boaters. The advantage is to great.

If you were supposed to get half the day running the boat, what did you do during your time?

Was he purposefully leaving you nothing, or fishing a pattern which happened to leave you fewer options?

i use to be a director for the aba , unless they have changed the rules again the rule of the co-angler having the control of the boat half the day is no longer in effect, now with that said remember i said i use to be a director , i am sure what they are now saying a co-angler should have the right to pick spots half of the tournament day.

i personally do not care for this situation because it just seems like the co-angler is competing against the boaters also is bologna . thats why i will fish pro-am or team tournaments only.

the only thing that would make it a alternate to fish these type of formats is if it is the only one around.

as a boater myself it can open up another can of worms on the expenses a boater occurs and really cannot ask the non-boater to pitch in half .

my advise is to go find another tournament format or join a local club .
