Hyrule Bass Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 All mono all the time for everything except for one baitcaster that has 17# fluorocarbon for the mono its big game, stren, and trilene XL and/or XT...various sizes... Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 I just picked up Suffix Performance Braid last week and for some reason I like it, but I think it's equal to PowerPro. Quote
WookieeJedi Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I use both the Suffix and Power Pro for braid. For mono, I use Cajun Red. The rest is Flouroclear for everything else. I used straight FC for about a minute, but the knot strength just isn't what I want it to be, so I went with the flouroclear. Pretty soon, FC line will be improved to the point where I go back to it, just not now. Quote
rbreedi1 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Sufix Elite 8lb for spinning and 12lb for casting. Power Pro 65lb for flipping/pitching/froggin. Quote
14blackmaxreels Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I like 10lb green stren.I have Berkley Trilene Line on one reel and i don't care for it at all.Trilene seems a little weaker then Stren of the same size... Quote
Capt.Bob Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Ultra light action spinning rigs, Stradic and Saros 1000 size reels- 6Lbs. test Fireline with 4-6 feet of 4 Lbs. test Seaguar Abrazx for leader joined with a Blood knot light and ML action spinning 1000 size or 2500 size Symetre Stradic and Sustains, use 10 Lbs.test Fireline with 4-10 feet 6 -12 Lbs. test Seaguar Abrazx for leader joined with Blood Knot My low profile reels on ML rods gets 20 Lbs. tracer Braid!! (tried 15 Lbs tracer Braid and had problems) same leaders. Medium action15 Lbs test Tracer braid, these rods use the 2500 size Symetre Sustains and Stradics, my low profile Bait cast reels on medium rods get 20 Lbs. test tracer braid. both get 6-10 feet of 8-12 Lbs Medium Heavy spinning gets 4000 Sustains and Stradics with 20 LBS fireline Braid, I use 6-12 feet of 12 to 20 Lbs. Seaguar abrazx and on my medium heavy low profile and round reels on bait cast rod the reels get 30Lbs Fireline Braid and same length leader but as strong as 25 Lbs. test Abrazx. My Heavy Bait Cast rods with Calcutta’s get 65 LBS fireline Braid and Vicious Fluorocarbon from 25-45 Lbs. test joined by a Blood Knot or a Seaguar Knot, and then leaders from 20" to 36" made up with 150lbs. test Ball Bearing swivels and 100 Lbs.test Cross Lock Snaps on 130 Lbs. test Vicious leader material that I personally build myself. I have always used Fireline since its introduction, going to a blood knot joined mono or fluoro leader of lighter weight, I am now converting all over to fireline braidsince it came out, as every 4 years they get new line. Almost always I run my reels for 2 years and turn the line around on the spools and run 2 more years, once in a while I that will only last one season on each end but it's rare. Leader material is mostly 250 yard spools and last a long time if kept out of the sun and elements when not in use. In stained water I will go to Trilene Big Game 1LBS spools, very abraision resistant and excelent knot strength, super cheap. 1 Quote
Fat-G Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 CXX in 25# and 30# test, PowerPro and Suffix Performance in 65# and 80#, very rarely 6-8# Izorline XXX (?) or CXX on a Stradic, and Big Game 30# when I run out of my 2700 yd spools of CXX. I just wish CXX didn't get stretched out, but obviously it does. I bent out a 4X treble with the 30# a week ago. It's really the only line I like to use for what I now do. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 I use a mix of different line currently but usually recommend some type of P-line copoly. I use CX, CXX, and Flouro-Clear the most, usually Flouro-Clear for cranks, jerkbaits, and spinning; CXX in 10-12lb and 20lb; and CX from 12-17lb. Quote
tholmes Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Spinning: 2# - 8# Trilene XL Casting: 10# - 20# Trilene Big Game. Tom Quote
JellyMan Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Pline Fluoroclear 10lb on my baitcaster for shore line soft plastics and flipping soft plastics, and 12lb Trilene XL on my other baitcaster for top waters and anything I am reeling back to the boat. But I change depending on conditions I am fishing. I am so far really digging the Pline Fluoroclear! Casts awesome, sensitive, and abrasion resistant. I still get stretch too which I like! I like so set the hook hard. Quote
von Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 6# or 8# P-line Flouroclear for spinning set ups. 65# Suffix braid for flipping/pitching 20# Segaur Red Label for football jigs 16# Sunline Super Natural for everything else Quote
RevoSEMIpro Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Sunline Supernatural for anything requiring mono. Suffix 832 braid. Not a fan of Flurocarbon but have tried Seaguar in the past. Quote
Bair Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 20# PowerPro and 10# Trilene Take that for simple. Quote
MediumHeavy Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Used to use P-Line CXX in 8# for just about everything, since it has a large diameter and incredible strength. Now I'm liking Sunline Super fluoro in 12# for most things that aren't topwater. Not a fan of braid, but might end up trying some again this year. Quote
Jigs 4 Pigs Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Braid- Suffix 832 or Suffix Performance. Fluoro- Seaguar InvizX (Searching for something better, hate the stretch!) Used to use Spiderwire Ultracast 100% Flouro but I guess BPS doesn't carry it anymore. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted May 14, 2012 Super User Posted May 14, 2012 All bottom contact applications- Seaguar Tatsu in 12-25lb. Crankin'- Seaguar Tatsu in 10, 12, and 15. Super User Bankbeater Posted May 14, 2012 Super User Posted May 14, 2012 Yo-Zuri and Big Game. All baitcasters have 15 lb. The spinning reel has 10 lb. The ultralite has 6 lb. Quote
Cincy Bach 29 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I use bass pro xps flouro . Anywhere from 6lb test - 25lb. Great knot strength, and it more castable than others I've tried. I have 9 different poles rigged up with bps xps flouro but have a pole with 65 lb pp also. My top water pole has 17 lb stren xl mono. Quote
Bassun Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Wow, a ton of different favorites out there. For the last decade I've been running various spiderwire offerings with Berkley Vanish or Transitions for ultra clear applications or ultra light 4# setups. But, I'm purely fishing for fun now so I thought I would try saving some cash and try using Ande line this year for the bulk of my rods. Ultralight 4lb - Berkley Vanish / Transitions 10lb - Ande *** (green) 65lb - Spiderwire Braid I will admit the strech with the Ande is taking some getting used to and I've found it a little too loose for heavier setups, but for everything else the trade off in cost for spooling a dozen reels makes it SO WORTH WHILE. I love the stuff! I 10000% recommend it for anyone whos fishing for fun. If you are fishing for cash, then yeah - I would still specialize but otherwise, I'm running Ande across the board basically. It is some of the strongest 10lb I've used, lol. It's very castable, has very low memory, holds knots well, has consistent but not too pronounced stretch, and surprisingly has good feel. The real kicker is the price! I picked up like 1,350 yards for less than the cost of spooling two reels with Spiderwire XXX or XL, and that's including shipping! Quote
piscicidal Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 topwater/jerkbaits: Yozuri US hybrid #15 cranks/traps: McCoy Mean Green #12 worm: Invisx #12 light jig: Invisx #20 frog/swimbait/heavy jig/flip setups: #50 power pro I recently converted my crank setups to Mean Green after trying it on my buddy Rob's crank setup. This is THE most manageable line I have ever used. It sets up so nice on the spool with almost no memory. I am very impressed with this line so far and would suggest anyone looking for a strong, easy casting, manageable line to give it a try. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 OK, so no one has done it yet, so I guess it's up to me "What line do You Use?" Hi!, did I see you in my shop the other day? Yes, I know, back on subject..... Trilene XL 6, 10 or12, 17 Been using it for decades and just like the feel and cast-ability of the product. (and I'm basically cheep) Spiderwire Braid 50 something.... Lot of nice data here. Anyone know how to set up a poll of line manufactures? Quote
M-D Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I should probably try more different lines... Trilene XL or Vanish for my spinning rods depending on water clarity. Vanish or Pline CXX for my baitcasters. Quote
urp Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I tend to run with you, Outdoorsman. For slow moving bottom baits I generally use a high vis line. Most other applications take a low vis moss green or clear. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 27, 2012 Super User Posted May 27, 2012 Berkley trilene for my spinning, 4# for my kids reels, 10# for my gear. Got 1 spinning reel with 20# spider ez braid not really won over on braid. My favorite setup has 10# stren megathin walleye, love it casts a mile. Quote
