SmokeRise1 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Go to this website enter zip code of place you will be fishing and be on your best spot at the major times given. You will be plesantly suprised. Has worked for me many, many times. Kelley http://www.solunarfo...arforecast.aspx What about the "minor times"? Is this time the worst time or almost as good as the "major times"? Quote
NCbassmaster4Life Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Wish I was in NC all my gear is there and I can't get to it tm night. Quote
Michael DiNardo Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Be aware of the daily moonrise and moonset times, but don't forget that weather trumps all. Mike Quote
BassfisherMass Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 well i am fishing both in the morning and at night so i will let you know whitch one was better but its going to fun either way! Quote
Michael DiNardo Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Good retort, but it isn't necessarily that easy. The times should be given in the Solunar Tables. Mike Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 5, 2012 Super User Posted May 5, 2012 I've took notice of lunar tables before, in fact the very same one listed above. Sometimes they were dead on, and other times it was dead off, but a broken clock is right twice a day. Some of my best catches in life have been when every thing has been against me. Wrong weather, wrong tide and wrong location, it's getting lucky......I'd rather be lucky than good, lol. Quote
Triton21 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 What about the "minor times"? Is this time the worst time or almost as good as the "major times"? This is the second best time. Kelley Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 5, 2012 Super User Posted May 5, 2012 I fished yesterday afternoon from about 2:15 till Dark +30. Best bite was right before dark and we caught 10 bass, nothing over 2.5lbs. What does strike me weird is that we caught, 1 gar, 1 grennel, 1 drum and 1 catfish as well. ALL ON JIGS!! Jeff Quote
NateFollmer Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Me and my little brother caught smallies on crankbaits for 2 hours straight, then it died off as fast as it started. Was around 6 to 8pm. Fish were holding SUPER tight to cover and the shoreline (probably didn't help that the river is muddy and up a good 4 feet from what it should be). 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 5, 2012 Super User Posted May 5, 2012 Nate....where the heck have you been? Good to see you back. I should have also mentioned the fish were holding SUPER tight to cover. We had much the same luck, except we didn't have 2 hours, it was more like 30 mins. Jeff Quote
NateFollmer Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Busy and lost my brother in Feb. (was in the hospital with him for that whole month, then March and April I spent catching up on everything). Doing a lot more trout fishing too (I know, I know, trout suck ) I enjoy the fly and wilderness fishing though haha I'll be interested to see how things go tonight. Taking Owen out again after work today, he can always find the bass.... I've trained him well Quote
Michael DiNardo Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I've mentioned this before, but in the muskie fishing world, anglers live and die by the moonrise, moonset, and sunset. Any given day can be horible fishing but hese are the best times of the worst days. If the muskies react positively at these times, bass should react likewise. Mike Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 5, 2012 Super User Posted May 5, 2012 Fishing by the moon phases for many years in the past has worked for me, I'm a believer already. Trust me just try it. I go fishing just to test out different lures and presentations, just to have fun. I would like to break the state record someday. Its 12lbs 14ozs. i'm up to 10lbs so far. Don't forget i'm fishing from shore mainly too. Its the same as fishing from a boat only backwards. From a boat you cast to the shoreline and from the shoreline we cast out towards the boat sort of speak. I'm going out in the early am but i may go out tonight too. They also say were going to have a meteor shower too, just a few may comeby. Fishing during a front(light rain) I caught 19 bass plus other fish too, standing in one spot from shore fan casting the whole area. I believe during this time the full moon phase was happening too. This was in the middle of the day too in a low light condition. The fish really put on the feed bag. On the way home i stopped at another spot and caught three 3lb smallies right away. Another early evening inbetween the rain storm when it let up a little with an overcast sky I caught well over 35lbs of bass again standing in one spot on the shoreline. Today its raining on and off and tonight its the super moon so lets give it a try??? I have an older fishing log book somewhere with all this info recorded in it. I log every trip I made years ago wether i had success or not. I believe if i made a graph of the fish frenzy feeding times in the fronts it would link up with the moon phases at some point. The graph would look like a roller coaster ride but i think all the frenzy feeding times That happened would be more equal across the graph. I still can't figure it out exactly what time during the front this feeding frenzy will happen but the moon phase has to figure into it i'm sure. I've had success before the front hits, during the rain when it lets up a tad, and when the front is about to end. I have also noticed that i see more deer on the move during this time too even during the day. Quote

When the frenzy dies off I change colors first i go brighter. You should pick off a few more fish. I have also seen the larger fish come closer in too and scare the smaller fish away. I may even go larger on the lure size too. Quote
tmier Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I've read if the moon rise and set times are nearly the same as the sun, the fishing will be EPIC. Working late tonight. But I will go out after dinner tmw for some popper action. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 The super moon did well by me this morning. I caught 9 in about 15 min with the buzz bait. Well see how it goes in trophy bass country, headed that way in about 3 hours NGaHB Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 6, 2012 Super User Posted May 6, 2012 Tough fishing again today. 4 bass boated, lost one at the boat. 1 bass over 5 lbs(see fishing reports) and everything else under 2 lbs. Also caught 3 drum, 1 white bass and a gar. Jeff Quote
Jake P Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 20+ from 7 am to-1245 pm. All were holding pretty tight to the shore in small stickups and brush. All caught on 3/8 oz white and chartruese spinnerbaits and bleeding shad rattle traps. 2 biggest went about 3 and then 4. All the rest were in the 2lbs or under range :/. Had a few sandies and 1 drum thrown in the bag also. If memory serves me correct we are right on par with last year at this time. I dont feel like the moon made any difference. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 7, 2012 Super User Posted May 7, 2012 Weather trumps the moon this weekend here. We had a nice warming trend going this week, fish were moving up, some LMB bass in warm backwater areas were bedding, SMB were slowly making beds on the main lake..........then we get a cold front, not even a bad one, by our standards, but enough to drop the day time highs from the high 70's low 80's, to the 50's-and 60's the last two days, plus sky high barometric pressure. I got reports of bad fishing and empty beds, so I didn't even bother going today. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 7, 2012 Super User Posted May 7, 2012 Caught one of my best this morning. Posted Today, 09:43 AM Well, I haven't been fishing the local ponds other than a few trips to Collierville. My last several visits to Grove have not produced much of anything, and no size at all. The issue, I think, is just too many guys are fishing it now and a few have been taking some of our prizes. Anyhow, this morning I downsized to a Rage Baby Craw tipped in chartreuse JJs. My first bite was a small buck bass. At 7:10 I finally got smacked. The fat girl popped the craw as I lifted it just off the bottom. Made a good run and classic jump before being landed. The fish's tail was tipped red, I'm guessing on bed or just off...Could have something to do with the Supermoon...She looked big enough to go 8, but she was light. 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 7, 2012 Super User Posted May 7, 2012 I noticed in my heavily fished places i changed my time to fish them from evenings to early am when no one is there and the place is quiet. Now in the smaller places i believe the fish learn out lures. What was hot last season may not be as hot this year. But you maybe right with more taking home fish to eat. (less fish). I haven't been out yet, i'm disabled with bad legs and my left hip just started giving me pain. I need a hoveround with a rod rack and tacklebox holder soon....maybe pontoons too. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Well, I hit up Lake O' Friday night to see what was biting. Started fishing around 3 a.m.. I used all sorts of top water baits with no success. At about 6 am when daylight started to crack, I switched to a spinner-bait and started to catch them steadily til about 8 a.m.. The bite slowed down a little and I was getting tired so I was off the water by 10 am. My biggest was like a 3 1/2. One thing I did notice during the night, there was a lot of fish splashing going on. I was in some really shallow water water 1-3 ft. I think my trolling motor was making the fish do this. Im pretty sure it was blue gills because one jumped in my boat . Quote
