I like Suffix, Steez and Segaur. I buy about 25 spools a year and usually at least 1 has a defect. But not on that magnitude. Quote
msolorio Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 ive had that happen with 2 spools of line my entire life and it was a spool of big game and seaguar invizx. the line looked good for the first, oh, 10-15 yards and after that, garbage. gave invisx another shot and thought i had a good spool until i reeled down and the hook, nothin, line broke for no apparent reason what so ever. thought maybe it was a bad knot, retied, made sure the knot was top notch and again, same thing. ill never ever ever use seaguar anything again. dwtaylor Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 From my experience working at a tackle shop, there is often vast amounts of back stock line that is stored in less than ideal conditions. I would talk to the people where you got the line from because it can be a storage issue. Also, by returning it to the store, the manager probably does a defective merchandise claim that also helps the company of the line trace issues with the line so they can adjust quality control as needed. For instance, when nanofil just came out, the line on the bulk spools was inconsistent to say the least. Anyways, that was due to a chemical reaction between the line and the spool that caused the line to degrade. It did not happen with the small spools, just the very large commercial bulk spools. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 Yeah, when vicious line first came out.....It was splitting like a banana peel causing weak spots every time I cast. It left a bad taste with me so I never brought it again. I'm sure they improved over time....but what i use now never fails me,so why change? I use trilene XL,XT and P-line CXX without problems. Still experimenting with suffix 832 braid...nothing bad to say about that line either. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 It happens. Most often it's relating to a retailer that hasn't rotated their line stock, or sold through the quantities on hand. You get an old spool from time to time that's bunk. I've had it with Toray, I've had it with Trilene. It's partly the nature of the beast. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 I've had a bad spool, but it's been rare for me. As far as storage goes, I had a spool of Big Game 25# never used in my hot Florida garage for about 5 years, I needed to respool and it used it because it was on hand. The nearly 300 yds I loaded suffered no adverse effects, I used that line for about a month offshore. I will say I was nervous about using it, maybe I just got lucky. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 Stuff happens, its nothing to get discouraged about. Just take it back to the retailer and explain, Im sure they will help. Quote
tugsandpulls Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 i respooled with xl again i like the line its the first time i ever had a problem with it think it was just some weird thing and now i guess it does happen Quote

My experience with Invizx is just the opposite. I caught my PB 9.98lb out of the grass using 8lb test invisx. That big girl took me for a ride through that grass and still made it to the net. It's not the only fluorocarbon line I use but it has never failed me like that. You must have gotten a bad spool that may have sat in the back of the store in less than desirable conditions for to long. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 In all my years of fishing I've bought a few spools a bad line. In every case it was line put on sale or clearance. Don't buy clearance line even if it is a bargain. Won't prevent you getting a bad spool, but it will decrease the probability. Quote
msolorio Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 yea possibly. a lot of my buddies use invisx and swear by it. i just cant get over the fact that a so called quality fluoro would break on a hookset. its obviously left a very bad taste in my mouth. my buddies have said the one thing theyve noticed and arent fond of is the amount of stretch invisx has but thats it. sunline has been beyond good to me so i see no reason to ever change. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 3, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 3, 2012 I had it happen to me less than a month ago. I bought a spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10lb from TW for my shakeyhead rod because so many guys on here use it. The spool I got was terrible, kinked up stuff that I couldn't feel anything with at all. Plus I thought it was supposed to be low visibility but the stuff I got almost glowed under water and I could see my line at least 10 feet below the surface. I took it back off that night and threw it away. I'm sure I just got a bad spool but it made shy away from it now because I don't want to get another bad spool of it. Quote
