Can anyone compare the Mudhole blanks to a production rod, weight and sensitivity wise?

I've been thinking about getting a custom build on a MHX or HM-MHX, but wanted to hear what they're like from someone who maybe uses them.

Also, is it worth it just to go up in price to the HM vs. the MHX?

Thanks

I had a MHX UL, I liked it but I you'd have to ask someone with knowledge in the rod building field.

The MHX blanks compare favorably to any of the commercially available rods regardless of price. As a point of reference here are the wts of 7' MH/F blanks:

MHX = 2.45oz

HM MHX = 1.95oz

St Croix SCV (Legend Extrenme) = 2.1oz

St Croix SCIII (Avid) = 2.3

The HM is 20% lighter than the standard MHX. IMO that's worth the price difference for jig/worm/drop shot fishing.

FWIW, almost all of my personal rods are on MHX blanks.

I sent a link of this thread to a buddy of mine who knows a thing or two about MHX blanks and rod building. He's in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico right now but it shouldn't take him to many days to respond.

BASSclary: As already been stated the MHX blanks are lighter than the St. Croix blanks. I find my MHX blanks to be more sensitive than my rods that are built on St. Croix blanks that are comparable rods. For the price point you can't go wrong with a MHX blank. Then you get the added benifits of a custom built rod over a production rod. You get the handle length and type you want, thread color you want, the type of guides that you want, and any other little thing you might want to add to it to make it "yours". Keep this in mind when building or having built a custom rod. The more you add to it to personalize it the more it is going to weigh. I build all my rods and have been building them all off MHX rods since I learned about them. If they have the High Mod blank in the action you are looking for go with it. If you don't see the action listed give them a call to see if they have it. They are continually adding HM blanks to their line up. I don't think you would be disappointed in them. If you have any further questions drop me a line or give the guys down at Mud Hole a call. They have great customer service.

Also wondering, what would be a quote on a 7' MH/XF with a MHX blank? Nothing special, just alconites, fuji acs, cork split grip, and standard guide wraps with maybe some electric blue trim?

Talk to DVT; he made me a great ML/XF spinning rod on a MHX blank. He'll do you right.

I emailed a quote a while back hopefully you got it. Full price on a build like you described runs $207 plus excise tax ($10) and shipping ($35 +/-). `10% off makes the members price $186.30. All the rods I build use static testing guide placement for max performance and custom fit grips and handles. PM or email me to be sure I have your right email address.
