Seems like like every year they keep getting worst. Almost every adventure out now for me requires picking of more than two ticks at a time. Today while out fishing I had to pick off two. One was red with a bright dot. Do anyone know if their is a certain one, color, or can all ticks carry the lyme disease? I am just wondering and would like some precautions if there is any? My father n law had a scare last year.

They've said this is gonna be one of the worst years on record because of the mild winter in Va endless. I've never gotten them in my yard, now we're getting them constantly. I usually keep a bottle of deepwoods off in my truck for pond/river hopping. Works like its supposed to.

Pretty sure it is just the deer tick that carries Lyme. I could be wrong though, just what I have always thought!

Ok, just checked with WIKI, and the deer tick (Ixodes scrapularis) is the main culprit, but all "hard ticks" can carry the disease!

That's what I was afraid of. My wife picked me up some OFF Smooth and Dry so I'll see how that works for any bug.

You can dust with powdered sulphur to keep them off. Put it around your waist and ankles to keep them out in addition to using insect repellant. I got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever two years ago. I'm really careful now, that stuff is no joke. Any tick can carry RMSF or Lyme, it is just more common in deer ticks. If you have dogs, make sure you keep them freshly treated, too. They bring them into your yard like crazy. I got some diatomaceous earth to dust him with too, it is supposed to keep them off.

Really works? Can you buy powder sulphur anywhere? Just waist and ankles? Might have to try this and I do have dogs that I'm going to have to keep check on.

lavender and geranium oils mixed together make just as an effective repellant as off, and is not poison like off is either. Ticks, as well as mosquitos and black flies, hate the smell and taste of both of those oils, and together they make a potent repellant. Your skin is your biggest organ, so if your spraying poison on it, you might as well be drinking it.

The sulphur works. You can get it from a pharmacist, I ordered mine from Amazon. This will be my first year trying the diatomaceous earth, so I can't yet say if it works or not.

They craw up your pants leg, under your shirt, and hide in the hair on your head. Pants don't solve the problem, they simply give the ticks a longer route to travel before they get to your flesh.

yeah that doesn't work cuz if it did how would you explain all the ticks us army guys get when we wear long pants tucked into our boots and long sleeve tops synched down at the wrists. so BAM problem not solved

were talking bout a tiny little resilient bug that will get its way to your skin at all costs long pants tucked in don't matter there a coming.

Yea ok If you believe that works.

wait till you get into a patch of chiggers! To me they are worse then ticks!

CHIGAWAY!!!! they gave us tons of that stuff when I was at Ft. Benning

You can buy permethrin at Dick's, comes in a 24 oz pump bottle. Not a big fan of DEET, careful with that stuff around your lines. Not only Lyme, and Rocky Mt. spotted fever as someone said, but anaplasmosis (sp?) comes from ticks also. Make sure you use preventives on your dogs, can be very painful for them. Tucking your pants in your socks will help, but they WILL get on you other ways.

Permethrin is ok but I still don't like it as its just on your clothes not really deterring them from your hands and face area or leg in some cases. Plus I got a nasty rash from it on my hands. It would be good if you had a set outfit you wore rather then treating all your clothes with it.

You are right clayton, got tired of typing ;-). I keep a set of pants, sneakers,a shirt and hat, sprayed and in a plastic bag. Doesn't seem to bother my skin, but DEET def. does. I view ticks as terrorists, a little paranoia helps!

I never had any luck spraying my clothes with deet as a deterrent ,i would spray it on and watch the ticks crawl up my pants like i used water. The only thing i found effective against ticks was applying a band of double face tape on each pant leg about knee cap high, the ticks would crawl up my pants and get stuck on the tape.

I haven't had any dog ticks on me this year, but I have found a couple of those little seed ticks every time that I have walked the bank this year. Luckily I got them off before they got anchored on.

Fish from a boat......

Powder sulfur works tremedously but makes your socks green.

100%deet is great but putting poison directly on me is not something I REALLLY like to do.
