hatrix Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Have you ever lost a brand new lure? When I say that I mean brand new, like first time ever using it new. I lost a 6" weedless hudd 2 days ago. I made maybe 10 casts with it. Then I decided to try and tuff guy it way out there, I got a tiny backlash and it was enough to stop my line and the shock snapped my knot. It was really such a huge disappointment to watch it happen. I never even got a bite on it and I lost it. It was a shame to loose such a nice lure like that and they are not really cheap either. airborne_angler Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Think we all have. I've lost a Rattle trap and a spend Spinnerbait on the first cast,on separate occasions. I lost a 6 inch non weedless Hudd a few weeks ago,got snagged up. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 2, 2012 Super User Posted May 2, 2012 Fish the TN river and expect to loose a lure every cast! it is just the way it is! Jeff Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 2, 2012 Super User Posted May 2, 2012 I lost my Hudd swim bait on the first cast!!! I was fishing it on mono and a BC reel and the reel jamed and my line broke=BY,BY! Quote
j.bruno Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Yup, just last weeekend , first cast on a Rapala DT THUG SS (FIRE TIGER color). I cast , hear a noise of like something going through the trees look down on my reel backlash... I was like what the heck. Lol then i clear it up, reel it back in... All that remains on the line is the lip! d**n Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 2, 2012 I've done it several times, it really hurts when it's an expensive bait or one you have high hopes for. I lost my first Spro Little John crank within the first 30 minutes and after only catching maybe 4 or 5 fish on it. Quote
Jigs 4 Pigs Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Lost a SK red eye lipless on my first cast, hung up on a stump. I've done the same thing with new jigs, but not on the first cast. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Yep probably to many to remember. The last time was a strike kings 6xd brand spanking new never been thrown and I had switched the hooks for some Grammys I had. Threw it out got it hung in a bush very first cast and lucky me left my plug knocker at home. Quote
j.bruno Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Anyone else have trouble with the Rapala DT series lips breaking off? Me and my friend have broken probably around 10-15 between us. Quote

hatrix Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 I have lost other lures in my time, we all have I'm sure. I have just never lost such a nice lure so quickly. Quote
"BRB" Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I bought my dad an A-rig for his birthday and in the first couple of cast got snag and lost it! So being the good son that I am I went out and got him another one. Then on the FIRST CAST he backlash and I guess he didn't have a good knot or something because the A-Rig just flew out in the lake. He said "I guess its just not ment for me to fish with an A-Rig don't buy me other one of those lures agian" Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 Spoons, jerkbaits, crankbaits(deep divers) and lipless cranks= Bad luck for me....I either snag it on the first cast, tie a bad knot or a toothy critter steals em'. If you have a lucky lure in any of the mentioned above...don't let me use it....I will lose it within 30 min. probably the same reason why I don't use them much either....lol Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 Sure - especially lipless cranks. I fish from the bank a lot and loose them from time-to-time. Countdown the bait and run it across the grass - but there are stumps and structure down there in the middle of the grass. Some are lost in the first few casts, some I at least catch a few fish on. If a lipless crank is lucky, it will catch quite a few fish...but it will eventually be lost. I lost count at about 25 lost lipless cranks over the last two seasons. I would imagine I'm at 30 or 35 by now. One little cove that I fish a lot from the bank has lots of underwater stumps. Over time, I've found most of them - one lipless crank at a time. I've lost at least 15 lures in that cove. High risk on lures indeed...but I've pulled a 9, an 8, and a number of 5 and 6 pounders out of that water so the risk is worth it. Example - on January 11 this year, I tied on a 3/4oz RES to see how a particular rod would handle that weight. I was in the high-risk/high-reward cove. Caught a 5.02 on the first cast of the brand-new bait. On the second cast, I hung it on a stump that I knew was out in that direction...that 3/4oz bait ran deeper than my usual 1/2oz RESs and I hit the stump - thought I was high enough in the water column to miss that one.... Kabar Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Every other fishing trip losing spinnerbait or crankbait . Last trip a lost 2 in-line spinners. Quote
Crookedneck Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I did it one time. Fishing with a buddy, he was begging me to try out his new set up. I am extremely cautious about using others gear. I don't like to borrow others fishing gear (or loan my out for that matter). After about 25 minutes of him telling me to try out his new rod and reel. So I grabbed it. First cast, ping.......his favorite spinner bait sailed about 300 feet. I felt bad, but still laughed pretty hard. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 Crankbaits, esp med and deep runners, are at great risk when I throw them. I don't fish cranks too much and don't have an extensive collection, so finding one that works on a given day dramatically increases the chance of losing it. Having only one of that particular bait in the box just about guarantees its loss. I think that is why shallow runners/squarebills are my favorites-I can usually get them back. Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 Lost a wooden rat I had just dropped 25 dollars on. Second cast too. I've lost many cranks. However I have gone swimming after some of them and gotten them back. Especially the more expensive ones. I have no problem going down to try an get them back. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted May 4, 2012 Super User Posted May 4, 2012 Yes sir. That is why I don't throw them when I'm fishing from the bank anymore. Quote
StuPidaso Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Just the other day i tied on a new jerk bait, had 3 decent fish in 30 mins(new favorite lure of the day) Spotted a nice one on a bed, first cast....BAMM! She snaped my line like it was #2!. She jumps right after shaking her head, i could see the lure and hear the rattles. I felt sick to my stomach, poor fish's gonna have that big ass lure stuck in her face for a while and i haven't broken off like that in years. Well i stayed around for another 30 mins or so and decided to leave. As im walking away i hear another jump and rattles in the same area, i go back to the area and see my lure floating right there next to the bank with a ticked off fish gaurding her bed! Got my new lure back! lucky day... Quote
psuangler91 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I lost a brand new spinnerbait the other day when my line broke way up the line during a backlash. I tied a crank bait on and was dredging bottom with it and on the first cast I hooked a line. When I pulled in all the line my brand new spinnerbait was on the other end!!! The fishing gods were definitely smiling upon me that day! Quote
