Deadeye-1 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 Ew.. I went thru 3 Skeet Reese Reels in 4 months.. The drag got shot, the reel wouldn't stop making noise after countless times of cleaning it and the wormshaft got worn from being fished. All 3 of them. This actually was something that I took into consideration after having both read and been told that there were problems with the early versions of the reel. But it seems whatever they did to it must have fixed the problems. I no longer hear any complaints about them at all. In fact I sold the exact combo we used to a man and his son after they both threw it. They live on Lake George here in central Florida and the son uses the combo to fish litterely everyday. They have been back in to purchase several bags of bait and another reel for the dad. They have nothing but praise for the outfit. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 4, 2012 Super User Posted May 4, 2012 That quality has somehow "suffered" with some Shimano reels being made in Malaysia is internet hogwash. I am VERY surprised that the W&M reel performed as well as it did. I've been lucky enough to have a couple on my bench. I would not spend my money on them. I'd rather a lower priced Daiwa or Shimano. As far as the KVD combo went, balance is very subjective. You mentioned several testers didn't want to handle the Falcon/Curado combo. Perhaps they are used to a different standard of refinement? Here's what I know, Shimano make reels because they have for decades. They're good at it. W&M is a brand marketed to you specifically because Eagle Claw is associated with cheap gear. They signed a well known pro, and made rods and reels with his name on it. I mean, KVD has rods and reels, why not Skeet Reese? I just wish there was a Daiwa in the mix to spank all those reels behinds, lol. Quote
NMarotta28 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I'm going to go with #1.. I have the same rod hooked up with a shamano caenan and it is unbelievably smooth casting with NO backlashes. It is unbelievably lightweight and has more feel than any rod i've purchased. ** I throw this setup with 12lb berkley vanish, thus far have had minimal problems with it despite hearing people go nuts over losing fish and knot tieing. Wet the knot before you tie it and you'll be all set! Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 5, 2012 Super User Posted May 5, 2012 Ok, now the results!! #2, KVD Series. Right off the start I noticed that the balance feel was different, not bad just different. The distance was not bad, just not nearly what the other two had. We even upgraded the crankbait from 3/8 to 1/2 oz and it did improve but never reached the same range. The #1 & #3 combos were surprizing very simular. I was able to reach 3-5 yrds further with the Curado/Falcon combo IF I put more effort into the cast, not much more now mind you but still more effort than the Skeet Reese combo. Anything more specific than 3-5yds further? Like an actual avg distance thrown by each? Quote
