Cal86 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hello all, trying to figure out what size new president spin reel i want to get. It will be going on a 6'6 m spinning rod. ITs between the 30 or the 35 size. I have an older trion 30 size on the same rod and really like the way it feels and balances. I also want to try and use braid on the new president i get. I should mention that i already bought in a 6935 reel, and put it on the rod and im not sure i like the way it balances. But i have a chance to pick up a 6730 president on the cheap. The 6935 is supposedly braid ready with the rubber strips on the spool. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks in advance. Quote
Stasher1 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 The whole "braid ready" thing is just a gimmick. People have been using braid in spinning reels for years using "standard" spools and a bit of mono backing. If you like the way the Trion 30 feels on that rod, you'll most likely enjoy the President 30 on the same rod. If it's a good deal, jump on it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 1, 2012 Super User Posted May 1, 2012 I'f get the 30 for a 6'6 med rod, had it been a 7' med I'd go with the 35. In fact those are my set ups, except mine are supremes and presidents. The whole "braid ready" thing is just a gimmick. Ain't that the truth.............backing isn't needed either, it's not a bad idea for cutting costs. Quote
Cal86 Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Thanks for the replies. I dont see how the newer model has changed much from the last model (6700), so maybe i'll pick that one up. Guy wants 35 for it, i figure thats a fairly good deal. Quote
LAO162 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I found this on Fuji's buy-a-better-rod website http://anglersresource.net/WhattoLookforinaTopShelfSpinningRod.aspx It emphasizes the alignment of the line as it goes though the guides. Added tension on the first guide may cause unnecessary friction. I found it interesting to consider. Quote

On most of my reels I use just enough mono to cover the spool with a single layer before tying on my braid with a double-uni knot...even the ones with "braid ready" spools. Quote
