prjavelin Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I fish in lakes where the prey its usually shad, maybe crawdads but in little amounts. Ive been getting constantly skunked and Im definitely looking to improve everything I can. I want to know, whats the best scent on the market? How big of a boost is using a scent vs using plastics the way they come? I want to use it mostly on senkos is it ok for it? Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted April 30, 2012 Super User Posted April 30, 2012 The best is J'J's Magic and my number two would be Megastrike. These are the only two that I use!!!! I Megastrike is a cream base that I use whem pitchin and flippin. Quote
WCCT Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Upperhand Scents for me! The Hawg Sauce is killer! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Usinga scent of somekind probably helps by keeping the fish hanhing on a touch longer to get a set on them but I doubt they bite over the other based on scent/taste etc. Quote
Super User webertime Posted April 30, 2012 Super User Posted April 30, 2012 MegaStrike and Smelly Jelly Bass Feast. Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted April 30, 2012 Super User Posted April 30, 2012 Megastrike. It does cover up bad scents like sunscreen. It makes a small difference. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 30, 2012 Super User Posted April 30, 2012 mega strike I haven't used jjs yet....... warning don't use mega strike then eat, touch mouth, itch/pick nose Quote
Nice_Bass Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I tried this but kept hooking myself. I am sure that if there were a bacon scent for fishing it would work on fish. At the very least it would work just as good as most baits do in catching fisherman first. Really though powerbait soft plastics seem to solve any scent questions i have Quote
prjavelin Posted April 30, 2012 Author Posted April 30, 2012 ive heard of people fishing with bacon I think that may work . I ordered jjs already will check out on megastrike Quote

Nice_Bass Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Just take some bacon in a bag and when you get to the lake rub it all over your bait ( jig, plastic ) for a true test! that bag of bacon would not last 5 minutes in the truck wth me!!!! Quote
Nice_Bass Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 It is impossible to hate the smell of bacon. For fishing, you are on the right track with jjs or megastrike though and leave the bacon for your belly Quote
prjavelin Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 too late my friend. Ive been on a search for different kind of baits that are readily available. Im sure if its nasty smelling for the fish im gonna catch catfish, if its nasty smelling to me im gonna catch tilapia(they love worms and nightcrawlers are their favorites) and if its awesome i may get some bass LOL ive tried a LOT of baits, from luncheon meat, corn, liver, chicken skin, you name it!!! forgot about bacon, time to try something different. BobP Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Opinions differ about whether scents attract bass, get the bass to hold on longer, or maybe just mask odors that can be repulsive to bass. All you can do is try some and decide for yourself. I've tried several brands and the one I like best is Kickn' Bass, a fish oil based product that comes in Garlic, Anise-Shad, and Crawfish scents. It's strong stuff - especially the garlic, which will clear your sinuses and lasts for hours. I don't use scent all the time but I always use it on Senkos. It does a great job of lubricating the bait so that it just slides over the hook and up the line on the hookset instead of balling up on the hook and getting torn up. Aside from its attractant qualities, which I personally believe in, saving a few bucks a day on expensive plastics is enough reason for the $6 investment. Quote
prjavelin Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 so do you guys think that the smell of the scent is going to make the fish move in to check the smell source? maybe bite the worm just with the wiggle and the smell? is it that strong that some of you are saying it will open my nostrils? i got megastrike and jjs on my way already, I will like to know where I can find a crawfish scent? what exactly is the smell of megastrike? they say its aminoacids... Deadeye-1 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I use Kick-n-Bass in my bags of worms, let it soak into them. Really seems to work. Also use Berkley Bass Attractant. Just squeeze a little onto the bait. I've caught bass when the other guy using the same bait did not, when I used this and he did not. Quote
Bair Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Just take some bacon in a bag and when you get to the lake rub it all over your bait ( jig, plastic ) for a true test! I'll try it this weekend Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Coffee, it covers up my scent. Trust me, when I'm out on the kayak in the summer in the I smell. Haha. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 3, 2012 Super User Posted May 3, 2012 I started off using the Baitmate Bass scent with awesome success on everything. At the time i purchased every scent that was availabe to test them all to see if anyone out produced the other one. mainly use; shad scents on cranks worm/crawler scents on worms Crawfish scents on crawfish lures And to change up my pitch i switch to garlic scent sometimes. On my senko's i use a 1/8oz carolina rig with no scent on the first cast. If i miss the strike i put a shot of scent on the next cast. I never had any success with mega strike scent. Quote
