I live in ok And i have always have used a spin cast i want to get bait caster what would be a good starting pole for bass fisshin and what tyep of line do i spool it with i dont want to pay more than $100.00

BPS Tourney Special combo for $80, spool it with cheap mono because there is going to be a learning curve, especially with a cheaper reel. You'll be going through quite a bit of line early on. The BPS combo is what I learned on, and it still works great.

I purchased the Abu Garcia Blackmax and Silvermax combos at my local tackle store. I think I payed $50 for the blackmax, it came with a 6.6 medium blackmax rod. The silvermax ran $60.00 and it came with a 7' MH silvermax rod. Not the best in the world but good enough for me. I started out with 10lb stren and now am using 12lb flurorcarbon on them.

Walmart has combos down here in florida and I'm sure its the same in your local walmart for the abu garcia silvermax and black max for 60$ and 80$ and also as bps tourney special as was said already but the abu garcia combos are smoother to my understandings. Either way its just a starter setup so I'm sure you will replace it with higher end and better quality when you get better. And I say go to your local tackle store or walmart and get the cheapest mono. Big roll cause as said already as well you will be going threw ALOTT! Of line..

I think this is the best you can get for 100$. The reel is decent for the price and so is the rod. The reel is forgiving as far as backlashes once yo get it dialed in correctly to your standards. I wold recommend the 6'6" or 7' MH/F. You wont be dissapointed with this setp.

Keep the rod you have and spend your money on a baitcasting reel this year, upgrade your rod next year.

The Shimano Citica is a great reel in your target pricing range. You should find one NIB for less than $100.

Another option is to scour the Flea Market forum for a used reel. If the rod you have now is suitable, keep it. If not, pick up a Berkeley Lightning Rod or Cherrywood rod at Wal-Mart. Both are undre $50.

When I switched from spinning to baitcasters, I hit the local pawn shops . . . I picked up several low-profile Abu Garcia, Shimano, and Pinnacle low-profile reels with graphite rods for $20-$40 each.

I would say that same as RW, spend the entire lot on a reel and get a better rod when you have enough and a spin cast reel uses the same type of rod a baitcaster does so there isn't a problem like there is with spinning. I really think you should wait until you have about $250 put away, you will get a solid rod and reel with that amount and it will shorten the learning curve. Trying to learn with a cheap reel is difficult, the reason is the bearing quality and free spool ability of the reel. Being that you are just learning you'll need to use a lot of breaks but you will get no distance, and this is were a good reel makes a difference. You'll be able to use more break and get better distance without much effort, when you really put your arm into a cast is were backlashes usually come from and with a better reel you can use just your wrist and forearm to make a nice cast and being able to do it with little effort will allow you to back off the brakes much sooner than you would with a reel that uses inferior components.

I'd hit Academy to see if they have any more Asaros in stock, and spend the other $50 on the best rod you can find.

Yep fantastic reel and at $50 its a no brainer. I just bought 3 last week and tried them out on Friday. Probably the best $150 i've spent in a while.

If your store doesn't have any i would also suggest the H2O mettle reel for $49.99.. And you certainly can't go wrong with a H2O xpress Ethos rod for $59.99. The rod is awesome, lightweight and very sensitive.

I have seen several Combos for around $100. The Abu Garcia Pro Max has 8 Bearings and comes on a 6'6" M rod, The Abu Hank Parker Special also has 8 Bearings and comes with a 6'6" MH rod. There is a Lew's Speedspool Combo with a 8 Bearing and 6'6" MH rod.

These are are available at my local Wal Mart, so they might be in yours as well. All are good decent quality outfits that would not only allow you to learn on but if taken care of will last you for years.

I would spool whatever you choose with 12 lb mono. Trilene XL is a smooth casting line that is very forgiving, you might want to try it.

I have a couple of reels for sale in the flea market that are great reels even for a avid fisherman. If you are interested take a look, my stuff is brand new condition. They are awesome reels, I just need to downsize.

I want my Scooby Doo combo back. That thing made other kids envious.

Like RW said drop it all on the reel and get a rod later. The citica and speed spool can be had for around $100 and they are both excellent but... If you can scrounge up another $50 and get a E series curado or lews tournament speed spool or some would say a revo its all preference and it is well worth it. You can maybe find one on e-bay for about $120-150 maybe less who knows. The flea market section is also a great place to look or ask around. Maybe get some braid for your first line and spool half with backing so you can spool 2x from one thing of braid and use the tape trick. You shouldn't have to cut the braid since backlash really wont affect it except making it fade. If you have to then you have the other half left and you will of learned from that mistake hopefully.

I got mine a year ago to learn on and still use it a lot. As long as it's taken care of you won't have a problem with it. it's a good reel for the price.

Decent advice ^^^, but be sure to price the rod and reel seperately as well. Sometimes the sale prices on BPS' rods and reels can be better than the "package" discount.

Gander Mountain will have combos under or slightly over $100 that will serve you well.
