ok so here i go again wanting to try somethin new/newer and different than i usually use. i love my lew's reels, love em, theyre the smoothest, strongest, best casting reels ive ever thrown but i find myself wanting to buy a curado 200. why? idk but i do. so heres where you guys come in, what do you guys think, should i just get one, really put it to the test, and see what all the fuss is about or should i not waste my time?

In my opinion, the Shimano Curado is way over rated. I didn't care for the old nor the new model. The only Curado I will ever use is the Shimano Curado 300 FJ. I got one and I love it, it's super smooth and great for Umbrella and double up rigs. Stick with Lew's and you'll be satisfied.

yea see that was my initial impression with curados, well shimano reels in general. i just might buy another tourny ss then lol

Shimano Curado is a great reel. Its not over hyped or anything. Im not on any 1 bang wagon at the moment. Shimano,Abu Garcia, Quantum, Lews... You cant go wrong in my book. Id pick up 1. If you dont like it you can always put it up for sale on the classifieds and people buy them non stop.

ohya.com had a great deal going on with the E series. Thats the series you'd want to try anyways.

200E. Thats the one to look for. I have a variety of reels, from cheaper to more expensive than my E, in my opinion, it takes them all. Castability, reliability, user friendly, just plain tough. If thee is any reason that its overhyped is becausevit deserves it. I wouldnt trade my 50E or 200E for anything. I would give all the others up.

200E series is the way to go; I absolutely love my 200E5 and 200E7...favorite reels in my arsenal. Not overhyped at all.

There is a reason they are by far the best selling reels at their price point...they are that good.

yea i was lookin at gettin the 200E series because im gonna be using it for jigs, plastics, flippin, pitchin, that kinda stuff. awesome i might just get one and really check it out. thank you all for your help, it is much appreciated.

The Curado 200E and 50E especially are great reels. I dont think they are over hyped at all.

However, they are recommended A LOT. and for good reason, they are nice reels.

However, I will say this forum has a bit of a SHIMANO bias, and a posse, so you will see more SHIMANOS (esp. the curados) being recommended more than other reels.

At the MSRP pricing point the Curado series are great reels. For those that find a deal they are a "Best Value".

lol man this is tougher than i thought. i have noticed the shimano and loomis bias/posse on the forum, nothin wrong with that, people love what they love and shimano and loomis are 2 trusted companies. ill probably get the curado 200E this friday and see whats up with it but not 100% sure just yet.

I felt the same way about the Shimanos. I bought a 200E when DSG had their sale on them last summer. All I can say is wow, I am very happy with it and understand why their is a so-called Shimano Posse. If there is one, I guess I belong to it. I loved my round Abu G's too, until I tried a Calcutta. Don't get me wrong, still love my Abu G's, but they don't compare to the Calcuttas. You won't be satisfied until you get the Curado though and see for yourself. I have read all the pro-Lew's responses though and have checked them out and I think I would be very happy with those as well.

Built a few rods for a guy that is Daiwa all the way. He left his reels so I could match them to the reel seats. Wasn't impressed... I'll take my CI-4 and Sustain over his Certate and my old Chronarchs over his Steez all day.

Come to think of it, he must not be all that into Daiwa as he has a CI-4 and a Stella too.

I was pertaining more to casters, but I do like the CI-4. Daiwas upper-end spinning reels are way over priced for what they are IMO. However in the 100 and less category, I think SHIMANO wins for spinning reels.

yea i think i just need to get a curado 200E and find out for myself how good they are. if i end up not liking it, itd be easy to sell as people are always buying up shimanos quick.

I would go with the 200e or 50e then when you feel that try a core 50 thats special right their . Swear it is.

Can you cite a source to back up this claim?

I owned a 200e7 for quite a while, and I can honestly say that it was nothing special. It's like the Toyota Camry of the fishing world. It's fairly smooth, reasonably comfortable, casts decently, etc., but it doesn't do anything that makes it stand out from all of the other reels out there. Sure, with some bearing and drag upgrades it can be a pretty good reel...but the same can be said for just about every other baitcaster out there.

I only own one Shimano reel right now (Cardiff 100A), and if there were more options for small, light, reasonably-priced round reels, I probably would've bought something else.
