Which Reel?

im in need of a bait caster and I'm looking at the shimano citica or the revo s. there both the same price and I'm wondering if anyone thinks one is better than the other. thank you for the input.

I've got both and you can't go wrong with either. The Citica is slightly lighter though.

Spend an extra $30 and get a Curado. If not, then go with the Citica, its built better.

The Revo s and Citica are comparable reels and both are good quality. Full spool shaft and centrifugal brakes. The Revo comes with a crankshaft bearing as opposed the the bushing on the Citica which is a common upgrade I'm asked to do. As for the performance gain of the upgrade, it's up tp the individual. It doesn't affect casting at all but makes the retrieve slightly smoother. The stock drag is better in the Revo but the Shimano is perfectly acceptable and both are upgradeable to Carbontex for <$10. Between these two I'd go with whatever I found the best deal on.

Not trying to jack the thread, but the bearing upgrade from the bushing on the Citica does not help casting distance? Either way, I have a Citica G, and would like it to perform like my Curado (to an extent, I know its not completely possible), what do you do, and how much? Thank you

It's at the base of the crankshaft, which is disengaged during the cast.

The bushing that is replaced with a bearing is on the spool shaft, at least that is also what I want done, or just get a Curado Spool.

That isn't at all what we're talking about. But since you insist, give me a model #. Citica ???? CI200, CI200D, E, G?

The only Citica that has a bushing on the spool is a 15 year old CI200. The bushing we are referring to is Part #3521 in the E and G models.

Oh OK, your right now that I look at it. I had a CI200, thats what I was thinking of. Well, can you put a bearing on the spool shaft of the new one? Also, I guess have that bushing you are talking about replaced with a bearing too. My Model is the new Citica G6.

No, you can't add a bearing to the spool. There bearings on opposite ends of the spool shaft already. The crankshaft bearing is Part #31.

The casting performance between the citica and curado of the same series is small. The basic design is the same with the Curado just a little more refined.

Exactly what sucks about that? The lack of an EXTRA third bearing probably contributes to BETTER spool speed. The reason that certain Daiwa and Pure Fishing brand reels have a bearing on the spool is due to the shortened, or disconnected spool shaft on the cranking side. Their design practically predicates having that bearing in place. The extension rod is there for spool tensioning purposes, and I'm not even sire why they even put a third bearing under the tension cap - it's not like that part spins.

Remember, you have to have a greater understanding of how the reel parts mesh together to form a machine before you can declare one design better than another. In this case, they are just different.

Haha, your right, I just checked my E. Duh. Ok, so how much is it to do the upgrade and tune? And does it help?

My recomemndation is to have the Citica deep cleaned including thorough flushing of the stock bearings and upgrade the drag with Carbontex washers. The crankshaft bearing swap is optional

Clean/Lube = $18

Drag kit = $8

Bearing = $7.95

If you want to go all out I'll polish the spool shaft etc for and extra $10

Its not hard especially if your mailing it yourself iv been waiting for my wife to send him my reels(citica and revo sx) for weeks she keeps forgetting when she mails me packages to take the reels to send out as well.

I don't have a revo s but i do have a citica so i cant compare the two side by side but u cant go wrong with either reel from what iv always heard i went with the citica because I got a killer deal on it(46.97 BNIB from dicks)
