Jim3h Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hey, im getting a Shimano Sahara 2500, im looking to put 4 to 8 pound line on it and i was wondering what rod i should use, I dont have too much to spend at the moment, around 35/40$. Im looking for a rod 6'6" to 7' medium to medium light action, if you have any ideas please tell me! Thank you! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 24, 2012 Super User Posted April 24, 2012 Berkley Lightning rod shock $39.99 at Walmart, 6'6" or 7' M . I bought one to keep in my truck as a pond /loaner rod, and have been using it on the boat this spring. I am very impressed with it. Balances with a Shimano 2500 Sonora very nice, and I have been using it for fishing tubes for smallmouth this spring, I am actually surprised by it's light weight, balance and sensitivity, no, its not as good as my St Croix Avids, and Legend Tournaments, BUT, it compares very well to the Mojo's I own for alot less $$$. elkriverangler Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I don't own a LR Shock but I was looking at them Yesterday and they do seem to be a pretty nice Rod for the Price. They are light and pretty well made. You might also check out the Berkley Amp and the Abu Vengeance. Pretty decent Rods for the price for the price you mentioned. Like ww2farmer said above they ain't Avids, I love my Avids, but good for the price. That Sahara 2500 was a good choice. Very good Reels. Quote

I agree, with that amount of cash you are not going to get a great rod but the LR is ok, it will do the job. Quote
jerzeeD Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Go to FFO.com and checkout the AllStar pro series. I have one and paid 70 dollars for it new 2 years ago. Now selling for 38 dollars on that site. Good sensitivity and strength, genuine fuji guides and reel seat. Not to put down the shock rod, but the pro series all star is literally twice the rod for the 38 dollars it cost there. Quote
kylek Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I have the Lightning Shock rod in 7' M action and love it. I use it to throw wacky worms and weightless worms and love it. I am using mine with 10lb mono. I dont think you will regret it. Quote
BrianSnat Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I have two Berkley Lightning Rods (regular, not Shock) and I've been pretty impressed with them. Great rod for the money. I have rods that cost three times the $30 I paid for mine and they aren't as good. Quote
