Cashion Rods Vs. Other Higher End Rods

So i have a cashion rod that I really love for jigs but I don't really have any high dollar rods to copare it to. I was thinking of getting another $200 rod and needed some help. the cashion is the only experience I have with more expensive rods, wondering if anyone has fished cashion and possibly the cumara to see how they compare, or the dobyn's champion? I would be using it for 1/4-1/2 ounce football jigs, not pitching/flipping heavy cover, but dragging ledges and such. I want the most sensitive rod i can get in that price range. I only spend a lot of money on the bottom contact rods so the only other better rod I have is a falcon lowrider but would never use one of these for jigs. Thanks in advance.

i have a 7'3" med hvy cashion and absolutely love it for football jigs, and flippin and pitchin. i also have a dobyns champion 735c which is the same length and med hvy rating as the cashion. that bein said, i find i get better hooksets with the cashion than with the dobyns. the dobyns has a pretty soft tip for a med hvy rod and thats the one thing i dont like about it. if i were you, id stick with the cashion. just as good as the dobyns with a smaller price tag.

THe Dobyns 784ML rod is a GREAT football jig rod. Also, I like a little tip on a football jig rod as to let the fish inhale the jig. I like a XF tip for flipping and pitching a jig though.

A couple of weeks ago I was on the fence about a Cashion rod too. Finally bought a 6'9" MH primarily to be used for spinnerbaits and jigs up to 3/8 ounce. This rod feels more sensitive and balanced to me than a Kistler mag, Duckett, and Dobyns champion. One thing I noticed is that the carbon fiber handle allows for a shorter handle than other rods meaning that you can use an overall shorter rods but still have equivalent length from the grip forward, which another plus to me.

I will choose a cashion over any of these listed and will buy a few more this summer. Very impressed with this stick.

I'll tell you this. I bought a Cashion rod just to test out. I got a 7' H to throw big football jigs on the Tennessee River. After fishing it a little while, I ordered 10 more yesterday. I'm replacing all my rods with Cashions. That includes a couple Dobyns rods, a Loomis GLX, a Loomis spinnerbait rod, a Kistler, a couple Cara T7 Falcons, and a custom rod with a St. Croix blank.

Obviously, the perception (at least given the price) is that the GLX is the "best" rod I own, and it is pretty nice. But, at half the price, the Cashion is just as good, if not better, in my hands from a weight, sensitivity, and overall performance standpoint. I'd recommend a Cashion to anyone.

Wow, as i said, i love my cashion, i had just never fished any of the other high end rods to compare with it. i'm trying to find someone with a cumara or imx to sling side by side. I tried a duckett and there is no comparison. Hey bassahol, i have the 7' MH Cashion for jigs, how heavy of jigs are you dragging witht the H?

Nothing smaller than 1/2 oz. I'll use it to throw 1/2 oz around chunk rock and bluff walls in current and 3/4 to 1 oz around deep cover or ledges depending on depth and current. Although I haven't used it for flipping yet, I feel like it has adequate power to flip jigs in heavy cover as well. I'm not a huge fan of one-dimensional flipping sticks that only get used a few weeks out of the year, so the H is perfect for me.

I have a couple of the 7' MH rods coming that I'll use for lighter jigs (3/16 and up), Texas rigs, and whatever else I feel the need to use. It should be a fantastic all-around rod. In fact, when I called the dealer whom I ordered from, he recommended that I get at least one of the 7' MH in both casting and spinning before I even gave him my list of models. He personally recommended those as some of the best rods he's ever used.

Well, I just got my new Heavy Cumara in to compare against the Cashion. I've always used the MH Cashion as my jig rod (football/offshore) jig fishing, wanted to see if there was another high end rod that might be better. I got the Cumara and fished with it from the bank, haven''t had a chance to take the boat out yet and try it on rocky points to compare. One thing i do like about the Cumara, the Heavy really handles 1/2 oz jigs well. It seems sensitive but not sure it is more sensitive than my Cashion, i'll update when I have enough time on the water with it.

I may be in the minority here, but Cashion and high-end rods don't belong in the same sentence. I had one in the shop for a guide repair and I can't see what all the hype is about. It was one of the most poorly assembled and finished rods I've ever seen.

Totally agree. I know to really judge a rod I should fish it but if it can't even pass the hand test why would I want to fish with it.

Check out the Phenix M1 or Recon. Most will say those rods perform above their price range. I still have yet to try out a Cashion but I really want to. Especially since they're made right here in Raleigh.

Never fished Dobyn's, but stay away from the Cumara's. I owned 8 Cumara's when they first came out. I snapped 3 in a T before 9:30am. very sensitive rods but, also very brittle. I just purchased a Kistler KLX and a Cashion, 7'6" flippers. The micro's on the KLX are definitely a cut above the Cashion micro's, and the KLX is much lighter. However, the Cashion is far more sensitive and stiffer. I can see more of both rods in the near future.
