The American Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I recently read a post about nicknames given to big bass, and it was pretty funny, but how about nicknames for certain lures. For example, I have a 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap in chrome with the blue top that I call 'Ol Blue. I was wondering if I'm the only person crazy enough to name my lures! Quote
kylek Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I have a Bill Dance fat free shad in a crawdad color that I have had around for a long time. I have been unable to find the exact same one. When I bought it, it was originally $6.50. It is always a fish producer for me and my father in law. So anytime one of wants to use it we ask for $6.50. Kind of a stupid name.. but both of us know exactly what lure we are talking about!! Quote
shimmy Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 ha, this is funny. I thought i was the only one. I had several names for my swimbaits: Mrs's Huddleston, MaryweatherFeatherbottoms, and Mr. Gigglesworth (caught several good ones with him before i broke him off on rocks on a cast). Had a jig named Jeffrey that caught several 6 pound bass before being stolen by a northern pike. 1 Quote

I woulda been like, " JEFFREY NOOOOO!!!! ". Hahaha. Quote
esoxangler Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I am not sure why, but my fishing buddy thinks I only have one type of lure in my tackle box, called the badboy. "I think I will tie on this badboy". "Wait until they see this badboy in action". "This badboy should catch something". Quote
Mumpy Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Loving this thread, I'll soon have a tacklebox full of named lures because of it! Quote

RyneB Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 my best friend has a Top Prop that he uses up north that flat out catches fish. He calls it "the prop." I have a Brovarney Baits swim jig in crappie color. I use a white fat albert grub trailer and it has caught me 438 bass in the 5 years iv had it. I make my own jigs and fish them all the time, but when the going gets tough, i tie it on.It is missing a few skirt strands and the paint on the head has chipped in several places. It is still going strong, over the years i have come up with these names for her. - the answer (i was a big allen iverson fan) - old faithful - THE ONE - skunk buster - whitey - IT (id always say, im putting IT on) Quote
riskkid 2 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 A few years back when fishing with a buddy I was using a tube and started catching them pretty good. We got to joking around and I told him I was using a new invention of mine. From that point forward we now refer to tubes as "my invention". Quote
thehooligan Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 My bullfrog zara puppy is called ol' trusty, lol Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 23, 2012 Super User Posted May 23, 2012 What's jenna? it was a swimbait i cant remember what though my nephew came up with calling them girls names cuz he likes to get my wife riled up when we come back cuz he'll twist it to sound like hes talking about a person "hey you gonna use jenna when we go out" and shed get all pissy and freak out and he would just laugh. It comes from them 2 being raised together my wife's sisters are almost 20 years older then her so her and her nephew are only a few years apart Quote
mikeeasttn Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Have a Bill Norman Deep Little N and call it "killer". Quote
loodkop Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 The perch Rapala shadrap 5 has earned a honouable name under artificial lure anglers in South Africa. It is called the "springbokkie" (springbuck) after our national rugby team. In a country where rugby is almost a religion that is high praise indeed. Like the rugby team the Rapala also wears a green and gold jersey. Quote
Hot n Tot Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 When my brother-in-law Larry was visiting was visiting us when we lived on a lake, we used floating Rapalas alot. After we went to the bait store and he purchased some Long A's we started hammering them with it. My wife named it the "Larry Lure", and so we still call the long A by that name more than 15 years later. Quote

You cannot find a local's boat without this bait in it. Quote
