My trolling motor is running slow it doesn't kick on until the speed is up to 4 and when it is full speed its not as strong as it used to be this is while the charger in the boat is plugged in so I dont think it is a battery problem. I took the blade off and cleaned all the line and weeds out. Any suggestions to what else to look for or is it just getting old and warn? It's probably 4 or 5 years old minn Kota 75# thrust.

Check batteries and connections. Sand the corrosion of the terminals until they're shiny. Could have 1 dead battery.

Could it be bad connections in the wires? The batteris are clean no corrosion and I had one hooked to the charger while I was running the trolling motor in the garage and I took the petal control apart and cleaned the magnet and the surface it rides on. Thanks for the input!

I noticed you said you "cleaned all the line and weeds out". How long was that crap in there? If it was in there for a while it might have wrecked the seal on the prop shaft and let water in the lower unit. That would certainly cause it to run poor. I take the prop off mine after almost every trip to check mine, especialy if I have been fishing shallow and/or weedy water.

I wouldn't be so sure that the battery isn't the problem just because it was hooked up to the charger. The charger isn't sending the same amperage a fully charged battery does. If the battery is also 4 or 5 years old I would place the odds at 100 to 1 that it's the problem more than the TM.

A friend of mine told me to do it so it was probably in there for quite a while. But another friend of mine told me about a guy who rebuild the motors for a decent price so I think I will have it rebuilt and get a fresh battery for it. Thanks everyone for the help I appreciate it!!

Is the speed controls with a dial that you adjust with your foot?

It's possible if you rammed the dial past 10 or 0, you might need to re-adjust it.

This would make sense, 4 would actually be your 0 speed, and 10 would be your 6 speed (its off by 4)

This happened to me many times, on different TM's.

Yes it is a roller you move with your foot. I did take it apart it has a magnet that is connected to the roller which rides on I circuit board looking deal (not sure on the technical name) I cleaned that surface and the magnet, put the magnet back into the slot designated for it which is connected to the roller. I'm not sure if that would reset it or not. If there us another way I'm all ears!
