xxjoker122 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Hey im really stumped on what to buy, i only want to spend $200-220 on a reel, so far i like the reviews on the ci4 but i found that some people think its flimsy which could be big problem, also since the spool is small is this going to be a problem using 8-10lb test? lmk what your favorite bass reel is in the 200$ price range Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 23, 2012 Super User Posted April 23, 2012 Well I really like Supreme XT's they have performed great for me. Youll save a liittle as well and might could splurge for that Tatsu 8#line with the extra $$ Quote

xxjoker122 Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 do you think a 2500 is good enough for large mouth? i feel like these light reels are to small Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 23, 2012 Super User Posted April 23, 2012 The 2500 series reel has a bigger spool & will help with line management if your using mono or floro. I do have a c14 and they are a nice reel for the price. Quote
xxjoker122 Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 thanks dwight, hows the line twist and do you get birdnested? Quote
j.bruno Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Daiwa Fuego if the warehouse still has them on Sale! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 23, 2012 Super User Posted April 23, 2012 thanks dwight, hows the line twist and do you get birdnested? I use 10lb braid on mine. No problem with line twist or birdnests. Quote
Mike__D Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Based on your price range, I believe the best bang for your buck to be the pflueger patriarch 9530 (perfect size for any bass). I own the 9535, 9530, and several shimano reels (3 generations of stradics including the CI4 and the sustain FE). If however you are fishing brackish waters that is. in salt environments I'd go with a stradic (doesn't matter really which one) Mike D Quote
xxjoker122 Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 ya im going to be doing zero saltwater Quote
Diggy Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Just buy a president for 60 and have money left over for whatever. Quote

Any 2500 or 2000 reel is big enough for bass, not that you need it but the drags are stronger on the stradic line that the comparable sized pfluegers. Not to diminish the floogs, I use them myself for freshwater. Quote
BigGame0892 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Just get the regular Shimano Stradic FJ or the older FI. Not sure if I've ever seen a complaint about those. I have a Shimano Saros in the 3000 size and it manages 8 lb. test fluoro very well. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 25, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 25, 2012 Another vote for the Pluegar Supreme XT. Very nice reel and super light. I have the 35 size for the larger spool to help with longer casts and it feels lighter than my 2500 Symetre it replaced. You can't go wrong with Shimano or Pfluegar in that price range in my opinion. jerzeeD Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Another vote here for the Pflueger Patriarch. It is an amazing reel. Yoy can find them new on ebay for around 160. Just picked up the 35 size. The Supreme xt would be a fairly close 2nd, though Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 27, 2012 Super User Posted April 27, 2012 I use the stradic CI4 2500 series on a 7ft Carbon light Med power. I love this setup. The reel is awesome. Yes, the foam handle is something to get used to however if you choose the right set up you will not be disappointed. I have battled several bass in the 6lb plus range this year so far and this reel did awesome. I used #30 braid with #15 fluro leader. Quote
