Bass Pro/strike King Disappontment

Went to the Tempe Bass Pro Shops yesterday and as always im just like a kid in a candy store,as im sure many of us are at such an establishment.

I am starting to get interested in spoon fishing.Havent given it a try yet,but im stocking up on varieties of different types and sizes

Bass Pro carries a large assortment of Strike King baits,however,there was one bait I was looking for in particular,that the sales guy said they didnt carry. Strike King Sexy Spoon.This was a little mind boggling to me.Is it not a good seller. Of all the places I thought would carry a Sexy Spoon,I was sure Bass Pro would.The sales guy suggested I hit up one of the catalogs for "Northern States" anglers,it would likely be in there.

Yea I know its in the catalog and online,but I was very surprised to not see it on a peg in the store.

Yes im a little bummed,but Bass Pro is still a place I gotta visit every time im in the Phoenix area(a 3 hour drive for me),even if they fell short of my expectations this time.

Those Sexy spoons are 10 bucks a pop. They must really be special. I use Kastmasters as an all-purpose spoon. They work well as a jigging spoon and cast a mile if you need to reach breaking fish. The Silver Minnow is tough to beat for shallow persentations. Little Cleo can be a killer too..

I learned long ago that finding everything you need and/or want at Bass Pro usually is not going to happen. They do not carry in store everything they have on-line or in print.

I wouldn't doubt the big boy stores get lazy and just rely on 'order online' instead of fully stocking shelves. It's not about having every item in store, the popular ones that sell good are out

There's just no way they could stock every single item from the catalog and website in their brick-n-mortar stores without building a store the size of Sam's Club or Costco. The retail locations stock what sells (or what they expect to sell) in their region, and for them to do otherwise would foolish. Inventory that doesn't move is money wasted that could've been used to turn a profit on something that will sell.

Kinda find it odd that as big a company as Bass Pro is,that they wouldn't stock that item. Sportsman Warehouse in Tucson has it in stock,and as far as I know,Bass Pro is a WAY larger company than Sportsman Warehouse. Sportsman Warehouse doesn't even have an online catalog,the last time I checked,the only thing SW website showed was their locations. As many pros as there are sponsored by Bass Pro AND Strike King,I was certain I'd find the product in the store.

There Rod selection is 99% BPS branded stuff and little to nothing else. You would think the only color any hard lure comes in, reguardless of brand, is Sexy shad, or some variant of. And Walmart has a better selection of terminal tackle.

All BPS and Cabelas retail store keep inventory geared to the local demographic. If the store is close to the coast you find more saltwater stuff than what you would find in the mid west. My local Cabelas has a way of helping you out when you go to the store for an item in their catalog and the local doesn't stock it, they will ship you the item for free but you have to pay for it right then.

I wanted to purchase some shadalicious swimbaits and my bass pro didnt have any. They used to have them before the umbrella rig craze, now the swimbait section is all umbrella rig stuff.

I think it's equal. Our local ones sucks just as bad, it's sad to walk in and see hundreds of different reels and only 5 rods of each brand if I'm lucky. Really, 5 st croix rods and 7 loomis, but they got 1000 ugly sticks. Crap at least STOCK your competition right so you could compare in-store

3 years ago I purchased 5 of those spoons and I haven't opened one package of them. I'm hoping now that I have my own boat I'll put myself into a position this year to where I can use them.

I was dissappointed the last two times i went to a BPS. one in richmond, VA and one outside of Baltimore, MD. i have previously bought rage tail lizards and craws at both before. ive been to both this year, and neither had any craws or lizards. what a dissappointment, now i got to find somewhere else to buy them...

You might just as well purchase a silver spoon as the Strike King Sexy Spoon. The paint job on the sexy spoon is good for about 10 cast or 1 fish. Mine are several years old, the paint job may have improved now.....................Al

I don't think the Rage Tail stuff sells well in certain areas. I've been watching the selection of Rage plastics at my local DSG get smaller and smaller since they opened the store a couple years ago. As a matter of fact, I believe they could display their entire RT inventory on an aisle end-cap, while Zoom products take up an entire aisle.

i know last year they had tons of rage tail products at the two particular stores i mentioned, this year very little. come to think of it, i dont even think ive ever seen a rage tail commercial on tv. perhaps they need to expand the advertising...

I went in my local BPS today to get some more Speed Craws, and I noticed the amount of Zoom products on their shelf outnumbered all of the other non-BPS brands combined. Zoom even has more shelf space than the BPS soft plastics. That's a lot of shelf space for one company. The Rage Tail stuff was limited to two small spaces on two separate aisles. GYBC only got two rows on one aisle, and they don't carry Ikas. It would appear that there are influences other than customer demand shaping their inventory.
