I am a big Abu Garcia Fan but, as of late, of their new rods I have purchased... 6 of them... two have broken when setting the hook. One was a Verdict that broke just forward of the grip and a Veritas that snapped off about 8" of the tip. I have considered that it is just me that caused it but can't, for the life of me, figure out how. I sent the Verdict back for Warranty. Holding off on the Veritas as it was only two weeks apart. I have been considering getting a Wright & McGill Blair Wiggins S-Curve Casting Rod in 7"9' MHM as I have heard they are very tough. Anybody have one? Tried one? Hate it? Like it?

I can't either. I've set many a hook, most of them with $40 rods, and never broke one on the hookset.

I have fished for 40 years. Never broke a rod until the last three weeks. Now... two. Oh, well!

yeah I have both the veritas and the s-curve. I love the veritas rods but man they make some strange noises sometimes on a hookset and just feel weird at times. Maybe i'm reading into it to much. I own 3 of the veritas and I'm not sure I'll buy another. Now for the s-curve I really like it. Have caught several large fish on it. Including a 12 pound drum lol. Never had any problems out of it and really like the rod. It loads up nice and is a really great rod. I would buy another if I broke it tomorrow!

I have two W&M Skeet Reese rods and love 'em both.

Neither are the one you mention but they are excellent rods.

I suggest giving it a try and then letting us know how you like it.

Don't own the Blair Wiggins, considered buying them after I saw 2 people using them next to me. Both were spinning, 1 rod was an inshore model and the the fellow gave it high praise, the lack of a real fore grip turned me off at the time. The 2 nd Wiggins rod was the saltwater big game, it looked so good I checked them out at Dicks and emailed Blair Wiggins. A couple of weeks later he responded with his recommendation for me for the use I had in mind. I've yet to buy it because it felt very awkward and my Star rod hasn't broken yet..lol.

I think you'll be happy but you need to remember these are going to be heavier and have less feel due to the fact most of the rod is fiberglass so you are trading lightweight and sensitivity for durability.

On a side note, I saw a video of Wiggins demonstrating shaking the rod violently in the store checking for breakage that may have occurred in shipping.

I like that tip for "high sticking" because I've been known to do that to get fish over the muck. I wont be doing that anymore tho.
