One time my Dad's two piece rod came apart and the top half went out into the lake. I swam out and got it for him, but it was in July and hot outside. For a lure I would just get another one.

Ive swam for $20+ crankbaits, ive had a buddy loose close to $100 in lures in under an hour, he didnt seem to care and just kept tieing and throwing... no thanks ill keep my money

I've swam out in icy cold water to rescue a lucky "lucky craft". If it wasn't lucky, I won't have bothered. Some baits just have the "it" factor and must be protected..

This is probably the stupidest thing I've done, last year in December on the Potomac river while fishing alone in my kayak, I was back in a crystal clear creek with about 10 feet of water, you could see the bottom. I snagged my LC Swimbait on a log, took all my clothes off and jumped in, I got down there and the line got wrapped around the the log and snagged. Once I got done I got to shore and grabbed a towel out of my dry bag. I was freezing. Didn't realize the danger till that evening. Haha.

I don't buy any baits that cost more than 5 bucks so if I can't get them back after a couple minutes of effort, I just break them off. If I had one of those high dollar swimbaits and I lost it, I'd be very sad.

Just 2 weeks ago I got my ARIg hung in about 10 FOW in Toledo Bend. Off came the clothes and I jumped in. Swam down the line until I hit a stump with my hand and unhooked my ARig off of it. Shoot, I probably had $35 invested in that thing!! I didnt have a choice...

climbed trees and pulled laydown up to retrieve lures. As much as I hate to loose a lure I get a kick out of my buddies loosing them mid-flight to faulty knots. Laugh my butt off every time.

I love plastics for this reason alone. you lose one and you only lose cents maybe a dollar(senko) doesnt hurt as much as losing a 20 crank or a good spinnerbait.

I swim/wade for baits often. Maybe I'm cheap, or maybe I just like swimming. Probably both. Either way, something in me just can't leave five or ten dollar bill laying on the bottom. I have also waded in for baits that I can see from shore, or climbed trees to retrieve somebody else's lost treasure.

I have tried lure retrievers but they don't work well from shore for me. I have tried the extending pole before too, but many times I am stuck farther out than the pole allows for. So, into the drink it is.

In a boat i break out my hound dog lure retriever. Thing has paid for itself at least 10 times. Id recommend that everyone that fishes from a kayak or boat have some type of lure retriever. On shore, ill use the tension snap release technique(atleast what i call it) for about 2 or so minutes, works about 80% of the time, the other 20% i end up pulling and praying.
