basslover12345 Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Anyone? I just got KVD 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 and want to change them to the Mustad KVD #2s, My dad said he would do it for me, BUT, he doesnt like getting hooked. He is in construction, and has the tools to change them, BUT we have no split rings to use Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 21, 2012 Super User Posted April 21, 2012 I would suggest hook keepers, their like hard plastic blankets for your trebles. But you'd have to go to the store and when you're there you could get split rings... Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Get some split ring pliers. you can make some with a grinder, or file if you want to put some muscle into it, and a pair of needle nose pliers NGaHB Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 21, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 21, 2012 Split ring pliers are the easiest way to do it. I just use my fingernails to open them and just make sure I'm not pushing/pulling/twisting towards my fingers. Quote
Super User deep Posted April 21, 2012 Super User Posted April 21, 2012 If it's a tiny thin wire split-ring, like on the small baits (I'm guessing it's so), fingernails should work. Remember to keep pulling out the old hook, and pushing in the new treble at the same time, so that you don't have to open the split ring twice. In the long term, a simple pair of needlenose pliers would be much better. BUT we have no split rings to use Doesn't the bait already have split rings? Take the old hook off, and put on the new ones. P.S. size 2 is a huge hook, no? I use #2 trebles on much, much bigger baits. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 21, 2012 Super User Posted April 21, 2012 Doesn't the bait already have split rings? You would think for the price try would, but they dont Quote
basslover12345 Posted April 21, 2012 Author Posted April 21, 2012 What TYPE of plyers, I think we have different types/sizes of needle nose Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 21, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 21, 2012 What TYPE of plyers, I think we have different types/sizes of needle nose Split ring pliers, they're made specifically for what you are doing. I have a pair of Rapala longnose pliers that also have a tip for opening split rings that stay in the boat with me and I have a pair of Rapala split ring pliers with my fishing tackle in the garage. North Ga Hillbilly Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11414694 You can make a pair look like that or just get a pair. Quote
Wildbillb Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 A regular pair of needle nose shall work. Watch this video. It works. Quote
jeb2 Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Wildbillb beat me to it. That's a great video, and a very easy to use method. Quote
detroit1 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Get your split-ring pliers at a craft store...excellant quality at under $8....later Quote
Bair Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Spro makes split rings that are much easier to open. I generally use my hands to change out treble hooks with them. Quote
