Issue With Lew's

So here it is i purchased a Lews tournament Pro speed spool and really do like the reel. Now i have fished with it on several times with no problem but on my last outing i experience the following, and please hope this makes sense it is very hard to explain:

. i'll make the cast and engage the spool and during the retrieve i will hear and feel 2 distinct clicking noises on every turn of the reel. it feels/hears like its coming for near the handle and underneath the reel. Now here is the kicker, ill stop reeling and i would either give it a little shake or just shake the handle and switch whihc knob i was holding(i first thought it was the knob thats y i did that) and it would stop for the rest of the retrieve. then i would make a few casts with no issue, then all of a sudden it will do it again. Now the performance of the reel was not effected. it casted well and had no issue reeling in several fish. But for $200 and it being a new reel(only fished 2 other times with no incident) the "clicking noise" really did bother me.

I never owned a lews but it sounds a little like the spool hadn't completely ingaged. The shaking it and wiggling the handle to stop the issue, really sounds like the spool release button is sticking a little, but not enough to keep it from ingaging at least mostly.

Maybe someone else will be able to help more than I can.

all i own is lews reels and ive never had that issue. it cud be what was mentioned above but idk, thats reall weird. i honestly have no clue what it could be. you should pm delaware valley tackle and see if they can help.

I think the issue might be due to being slightly over greased, and if so a cleaning might just solve it. Or I guess it's possible it might have a weak return spring, but I doubt it since it's so new.

It sounds like your spool is not engaging to the pinion gear via the spool pin. When I first had my curado I had the same issue. There was some excess grease on the spool pin from the factory lube, and instead of clicking in it would just stick on top of the pinion gear and not get set into the groove until a few rotations of the handle. Take the spool out, and clean the spool pin area with a q tip, and put a drop of oil on it. Do the same for just the surface area of the pinion. Solved my reel 100%

Before this did you ever drop the reel in dirt?

no it was never dropped in dirt, actually it has never been placed on a ground at all. on another forum i was told by a reel service guy that it is the pawl spring on it that is not engaging. im sure either *** or lews will take care of it.
