Super User BASSclary Posted April 21, 2012 Super User Posted April 21, 2012 Basically I like the feel and grip hockey tape provides, but will it damage my cork grips if I put it on there? I'd assume it wouldn't hurt, and would protect the cork from staining. I just want to make sure the adhesive wont damage anything before I wrap them up. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 21, 2012 Super User Posted April 21, 2012 I never used hockey or stick tape before so I don't know the adhering process, but, when I use to temporarily put tape on anything I'd put on a thin layer of stretch wrap around the item then tape it up. Quote
VolFan Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 You'll get the adhesive on the cork, but it won't damage it per se. Wrap a little pre-wrap or aluminum foil on beforehand if you're concerned about it. Quote

I do this with all my rods, or just about all, no damage so far, I do a spiral texture.. If it does cause it to get sticky, it's nothing a magic eraser can't fix:) Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted April 22, 2012 Super User Posted April 22, 2012 It will leave some sticky behind, but won't damage anything, make nice with tennis players and EMS folks, they have nice wraps. Quote

zachb34 Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 hockey tape depending on the brand will actually seperate the sticky part from the cloth on a smooth surface so if you have a split grip it will stick and after awhile it can be hard to get off if you want a lot of grip use black it will become very sticky white will be a better option it wont leave that sticky residue on your hands i would recomend red or yellow they are thinner and dont stick too much on your hands camo will also do this its up to you I know from the life of a hockey player Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 22, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 22, 2012 I have white and black Renfrew hockey tape if it makes a difference. Quote

I never have had a problem with tape residue on a stick though because if I take the tape off for some reason, I just put it right back on over the place the old tape was 1 Quote
Super User deep Posted April 23, 2012 Super User Posted April 23, 2012 I have been toying with a "rod wrap". It's working out well so far. (the fifth rod from the right) Quote
zachb34 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 renfrew will be fine go with the white imo it will work better Quote
FisinCrazee Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I have base ball "bat wrap" on seven of my rods and love it. Bat wrap is a little bulkier than some other wraps but also is more comfortable. I have large hands but like a small rod handle. Before I wrap, I take course sandpaper to the cork and work it down to "same" shape but a much smaller diameter. Also, on some cork handles a filler is used to make them 'pretty'. I have a couple of these and when I had to replace the wrap after a couple years of use, some of the filler was pulled out by the wrap adhesive. This is not a big thing unless you decide to remove the wrap for good; then you need to replace the filler for looks. Bob Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 renfrew will be fine go with the white imo it will work better Naa, white looks absolutely disgusting when dirty. All colors work the same. I'm a hockey goalie, I know everything about stick grips. Quote
shutupnfish Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Try wrapping the first layer sticky side out. That is if you don't mind multiple layers. Steve Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 25, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 25, 2012 I like white on my lacrosse sticks, and don't care how it looks dirty. After all, I can always retape to get the clean look. Can't clean cork back to factory. I'll give it a shot later today. Quote
