MarkM Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I'm looking to purchase my first true crankbait rod. I have a Dobyns Savvy 735C that I love and want to stay with that line of rods. So, my question is which rod would the better choice for lipless, square bills and moderate diving (<8') crankbaits? Any opinions on these or other Dobyns options would be helpful. Thanks Quote
KevO Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I have a Dobyns Champion 685 cb so I'm assuming its close the same action. I use it for traps, sqaure bills, and topwater. It's rated up 1.25 oz so it handles bigger baits really well. I've only had it for about a week but I really like it so far. It's stiff enough for good hooksets but soft enough not to rip the hooks out. If the savvy is anything like it you will love it. As for the 705 cant really speak for that one but I like the 7'0 cranking rods for medium cranks 8-12'. I use a Shimano crucial for those btw. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I throw small and big cranks on my 765 glass and love it. 705 is a nice rod I'm sure! Quote
Craiger12 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I would definitely go with the 705. You may want to look at the 705CB graphite version as well. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I recently went through this exact decision. I went with the 705 glass. I'm glad that I did. It handles everything from baby 1-'s to dd22's well. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 20, 2012 Super User Posted April 20, 2012 There isn't a crank you can't throw pretty darn good on a 705CB Glass. Love mine so much I bought a second. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I sound like a broken record but I fished the Lamiglas SR705R for the last five or six years until I tried my buddy's Dobyns 705CB glass. I got my own. I prefer it over the SR705R hands down. Quote
